Was Dallas just pretending to want a QB?

Anyone else think that Dallas might have been lavishing attention on Goff and Wentz, not because they planned to draft one of them, but because teams like the Rams and Eagles might have been interested in moving up to draft them at #4?

I mean, if you thought that teams wouldn't pay a king's ransom to Tennessee and that San Diego didn't need a QB, either, then Dallas would have been able to trade that #4 for a high to middle first-round pick, plus some more high picks. If they were planning on going defense or Elliot all along, it would make sense to try to do that. And if they really do believe that Romo has 3+ years left, then their courtship of Prescott makes sense, too.

Goff would have been a consideration @ #4 but not Wentz - is my sincere opinion.

Noway Dallas would have paid the kind of price it would have taken to move up from 4 to the 1 & 2 spots before the Draft, and they are glad they didn't today.

Thus far it couldn't have played out better, a shot at the two best Overall Players on Defense Ramsey (by far the most talented skill player in the entire 2016 Draft) and on Offense bookend LT Tunsil (multiple picks in a Trade down scenario outside the NFC East). Both play and start multiple positions if needed at a high level for the next Decade and a half.

Even though I didn't want to go QB, I hope they weren't pretending. Any time you have a shot at a potential franchise QB, you need to do your homework.

I think Dallas was doring proper due-diligence for the most important position in football.
I don't think they really considered trading up.
They may have taken one of those guys at 4, but not really even sure of that.

The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if they aren't still interested in Lynch. I can't remember them throwing so much effective dirt in the water re: a draft pick/position in recent years. We really have no idea which direction they're going to go in, and they have done a ton of research on the QBs.

I don't think they'd really do it, except in a small trade-back situation with Elliott off the board, but you have to wonder why they'd go see Goff, with Jerry of all people, once he was already off the board. It feels like there's some misdirection going on with Dallas, and I can't think what else it could be about if it's not about the QB.

No, they were not pretending. But when two teams grossly overpay for mediocre talent at QB, you move on to your plan B.
