So how does that make you feel? Does it make you want to stop giving to worthy and important causes out of fear of feeling like a fool?

I feel certain that karma has his number and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

In an indirect way he and the media are victimizing people and organizations that are worthy of your donations because of the very subtle reaction people will have toward this story.

Again, I would not want to be in his shoes.

If your the kind of person that likes to give to people and causes, monitor your reaction to this very carefully. A desire and willingness to give is perhaps one of the most valuable conditions of the heart.

This is why I have no problem with municipalities banning pan handling.

Many years a go in Salt Lake City, UT., there was a man that did something similar...he got caught by some media people that watched him for months then found him one night leaving and driving away in an expensive sports car.

Houston media did the same thing. They actually followed the person go back to their expensive home.

I honestly have no problem whatsoever with what this guy does. He's not doing anythinbg that's not done by hundreds of thousands of people and corporations throughout our country. Even our own government is running scams on us everywhere we look. It's just that this guy does it by tugging on people's heart strings. That's what seems to irk people so bad. At least he freely admits it when confronted about it. Does our government or big corporations ever admit to what they're doing to cheat us? I think not! It's absolutely the American way to squeeze every penny out of you/anyone that they/anyone can get.

One small example that comes to mind........Here in Philly, Burger King is running ads for $1.29 Whopper Jr.'s. But if you want cheese on it, that's another $.50. However, if you order a sandwich from them that normally comes with cheese but you don't want the cheese on it. They don't refund you $.50, they keep it. That's just the way it is in America. The government and corps ALWAYS have to come out ahead!

I got a traffic ticket for running a red light back in December in Moorestown NJ. Well, in NJ you get POINTS on your drivers license for moving violations. I didn't feel like I deserved points because of the circumstances of the infraction. So in order for me to avoid points, I had to pay a lawyer $200 just to show up in court with me. But that's not the scam.

So I go before the judge and got it reduced to "Unsafe operation of a vehicle" which comes with no points. But unbeknownst to me, that meant that there was an additional $250 DMV Fee that I had to pay.

I feel INFINITELY more ripped off by that crap than I ever would by giving some faking panhandler a dollar!

I'm sure that if others herein cared enough, this thread could probably go 20 pages of people telling about how they felt ripped off by our government and big corporations.

If this guy is willing to to go through all the effort to figure out how to get a buck out of 100k different people a year, I say more power to him!

Afterall, it's 100% The American Way!!

For the record, I NEVER give to panhandlers. I pay enough taxes as it is.

yes corporations always have to come out ahead. when they come out behind, they close the business down. What's the point of running a profit business without a profit?

your concerns here are laughable

maybe to you but please dont assume that your opinions on the subject are the norm or even the majority

the poster brought up a valid point, it is always important to look at things/issues from different angles and viewpoints

I'm so jaded now, I hardly give to any of these guys anymore, but I kind of like the guy in the video & he cracks me up, I might give him a buck or two for the laughs.

You couldn't pay me $60-100K a year to do that crap every day

A friend and I were outside a restaurant just last week and a guy seemingly materialized in the parking lot and shouted "hey, guys!" at us from about 20 yards while walking towards us. Pretty large guy, well dressed, etc. He gave us this story about how he was from Corpus, and had to get back, his rental car ran out of gas - and the engine light came on, his wife won't answer the phone and neither will the rental car company, and he just needs some cash to get back to Corpus - so if we could "each just give him like $20, that would help out."

Then he launched into his 'backstory' about how he played pro baseball for the Expos - "my name is RC Caldwell, I played pro ball for the Expos. I have about $300k in the bank, I just don't have access to it right now. I'll pay you back the money. I can get you signed Spurs jerseys, jackets - TD, Tony, whoever you want..."

We ended up paying him $3 in "shut up and go away" money and then he berated us by going "$3?! You know you can't buy anything for $3, right?!"

Being a baseball fan, I looked up ol' RC Caldwell after he left.

Here's his "career": http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=caldwe001ron

And here's what he's up to now: http://www.homefacts.com/offender-detail/TX04173711/Ronnie-Charles-Caldwell.html

Long story short, I'm skeptical of all of them anyway, and especially now, and I won't give money.

Not to bump a really old, but this guy just came up to me outside of Gold's Gym in San Antonio. I get out of my car, and he goes "hey, sir!" I turn around, and he's walking over. I recognized him and said "no, bro." He stopped and looked at me, and I said "what do you want?"

"Nothing. Nevermind sir," and got in his car and drove off. So, he's still out there. Making a living, I assume.

You should have pulled out your smart phone and when asked I'm googling your picture....

Well, that was 3 years ago. I did a lot of research on him, and found a bunch of articles on him, so I knew a lot about him. Today, when he came up, it was definitely one of those times where I wished I had played it differently. My initial reaction was more of a "you have got to be kidding me. This guy again?" So, I said "no, bro." And I think he knew that I wasn't worth his time, and he bolted.

In hindsight, I wished I had let him do his spiel and freaked him out with everything I knew about him.
