I would like to see a myriad of players competing for both punt and kick returning duties. In addition to Whitehead and the gimpy Dunbar, I would like to see the following:

Darius Jackson - 4.3 speed, nuff said

Anthony Brown - see Darius Jackson

Ed Eagan - supposedly a terrific returner albeit against lower level competition - but better size than either Lucky or Dunbar

Cal Poly Chris Brown - does not have crazy 40 time, but is a player that did it all: rush, throw and receive

Anyone else excite you?

Darius Jackson has crazy good physical traits. Did he return kicks in college?

I'm thinking Eagan will win the role as our primary returner.

Don't forget McFadden can return kickoffs too.
But yes, need some competition. Whitehaed improved as the season went on, but I am not 100% all in.
Let him earn it, as all of them need to compete. Will be good to watch this.

Doesn't matter who the kickoff returner is (it does but the role is greatly minimalized with rules changes). I'm more interested in who the punt returner is.

Special teams is a 3rd of the game, I hope somebody steps up. I thought Lucky did a good job, but like Beasley, tacklers just throw them down with one arm.

We haven't replaced Harris just yet.

Darren McFadden didn't excite me but if he wants to keep his value to the team, he should compete at returning kicks

Whitehead is going to be a real asset for us returning punts. The only thing holding him back was being a rookie. Since Whitehead is a sophomore now and the team obviously doesn't trust rookies returning kicks, be prepared for Lucky to have minimal competition in camp returning punts. It's his job to lose and judging by the offseason he seems to be having, he's not losing it.

Whitehead is going to be the punt returner. He did a very good job at it and will only get better. He will also be the kick returner and I think that role may be more valuable with new rule

Lucky is one of the shiftiest returners in the NFL. He just got better and better as last season progressed.

I do not get the Lucky hate around here.

He's exactly what you want in terms of athleticism. He's fast, twitchy and they have a coupleof offensive packages for him. He'll be very difficult to unseat unless someone bowls them over.

Yeah he did start to look pretty good at it as the season went on.

Darius Jackson - 4.3 speed, nuff said........ this is the one i LIKE best,

Whitehead and the gimpy Dunbar also............ no it would be stupid to have either one of these guys doing it.

If Jackson pans out, you dont really need these 2 guys.

My problem with Whitehead was that he could be tackled with one hand, but he supposedly has gained 10 lbs, mainly in his lower body, to combat that weakness. I am willing to wait and see if this helps. Dunbar is just a poor returner, injured or not.

If Darius can win the kick return position from Dunbar, then his ability to stick on the roster increases quite a bit. Still a long and tough road for him to beat out the 4 guys ahead of him. But his measurables and intangibles give me hope.
