What a dolt. So Buckner would have come in and gotten 13 sacks his rookie season? Ramsey would have come out like Darrelle Revis?

Go back and look at the "draft grades" given out at the time five years ago. They're almost all wrong. Complete guesses. Paste eaters like this guy just have to fill some space so he can look busy at his desk.

When is drafting only about the next year? Aren't you trying to build long term success? In five years, you better hope the Cowboys have won a Super Bowl because I bet people will be wondering if it isn't time to start considering Zeke's replacement as he will soon become a declining asset.

The process is not a single standard. If the team believed Elliott was the "impact" player Jones said he was and had the least chance of busting (which I believe he does), then I can understand using the No. 4 pick on him.

You don't end up with a Claiborne, wasting such a high pick. Dallas could afford that less than taking the safe route.

If they believe Ramsey is just as good of a pick and just as much of a sure thing, then it would have made sense to take him ... although he also was a "luxury" pick because we have starting corners in Carr, who had just taken a pay cut, and Scandrick.

The only player available who wouldn't have been a luxury pick was Buckner (and some could argue we've drafted DEs in the second round the past two years so he is too). And Buckner was not considered the same value.

Like I said, a lot is going to depend on how the players turn out. The success of Ramsey and Buckner, or lack thereof, will show whether the move was smart or stupid. And I say this as someone who was not necessarily wanting Dallas to draft Elliott. (Bosa was my pick.)

From a sheer probability perspective we messed up in drafting Zeke at 4 if we're trying to value picks on impact and longevity. You can argue against that if you want. But I mean... you might as well shake your fist at the sun.

The idea of getting another good back is sound: A solid rushing attack helps Tony Romo which helps Dez Bryant and the receiving corps and, thus, goes back to helping the offensive line. Football is all about symbiotic relationships.

--Yeah....because, as the Cowboys have demonstrated, CB and DE are two positions where you never see busts. No, it wouldn't have the same domino effect.

But the lessons Dallas should have learned from the Manziel/Martin situation were already forgotten. Instead, Jones went for a position that has more first-round busts and more late-round successes than any other.

--Total and utter falsehood, if not outright deceptive. There is distinct measurable difference between a high 1st rounder, a low 1st rounder, and every subsequent round.

True but like someone else said, one player wasn't going to change our defense, but I would argue Zeke elevates our team more than any one player could've at four. In fact, you could make a good argument that Zeke helps our defense more than Ramsey would've. So maybe Zeke WAS indeed a defensive pick.
We got panned for not taking sharif and instead took a third rounder at the end of the first. I bad mouth our drafts as much as anyone but we have also had some moves like that which turned out to be absolute genius. I'll admit I wanted Manziel over Martin, but thankfully I was wrong since we took Martin.

Maybe, but it shouldnt be about immediate help it should be about building for a championship. Any help Zeke is giving is a mirage. When we roll into GB and nobody can stop a one legged Rogers in the second half you are going to wish you had taken the shut down corner.
