After suffering a serious neck injury last season, Seattle Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette will announce his retirement Thursday, Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com reports citing a league source.

Lockette played in 34 games for the Seahawks over five NFL seasons, finishing his career with 22 catches for 451 yards and four touchdowns. He was also a standout special-teams player.

In Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys, Lockette was covering a punt when he got hit by safety Jeff Heath. Lockette suffered a concussion, along with disk and ligament damage in his neck.

Was he really a standout STs guy? On that play he really didn't seem to look like he knew what he was doing. Heath did what he was suppose to do in the middle of the field and the guy just wasn't paying attention.

It was a clean hit, but I still feel bad for Lockette. I hate to see players injured like that. :(

Why play a game then?

Because football is a great game. Based on this:

The game starts with the first of 10.5 kickoffs. My apologies in advance if you like returns, because 5.7 of those kickoffs will be touchbacks. Of the plays you will see this afternoon, there will be 80.5 passes and 53.1 runs, so I hope you enjoy passing. From those 80.5 passes, 5.4 will result in sacks, all of which will be immediately followed by a very large man dancing as if he were a much smaller man. The remaining 30.9 plays will be kickoffs, punts, field-goal attempts or kneel-downs.

Punts and kickoffs account for around 21 snaps per game. While passes and runs account for over 130 plus around 10 other plays a game equaling a total of around 161 total snaps per game. That means these plays account for amount 7.66% of the plays. If 7.66% of plays means the game isn't worth playing to you. I think you don't actually love this game.
