Some are under the impression that taxpayer money paid for the statue, and others are less than enamored with its aesthetic qualities.

I'm anti-selfie to a very high level, but to get angry about a selfie statue tells you that people's focus is highly misplaced and they aren't intelligent to make decisions for themselves and much less for the country as a whole. It makes me cringe to think that some of this people might actually be registered voters.

I despise the current trend of the selfies made by the ladies with pursed lips. It is not sexy and it it is a sad attempt to get attention.

Duck face is sad. Wish someone would come up with something better instead of looking like some airhead kissing a camera in every picture.

Tell that to all the Instagram models, you tubers, "gamer girls," and snap chatters.

As long as there are lonely men on the internet those women will continue to get attention, money, and gifts for doing nothing but take pictures of themselves

Most of the time it is women you know, friends of the family or even family members (cousins, nieces and so on) and they are not working as models on any of the social medias or also not working as free lance media personalities on any of the social media formats.

It is mostly your run of the mill young ladies doing it and it has nothing to do with them being models or entertainers on social media.

My post was meant to be sarcastic. I get what you mean but going back to my point, the "Instagram models" I am referring to are women on Instagram with 1m+ followers with 500+ pictures of themselves doing the same thing in different outfits. Those are the ones with "business inquiries" to do "public appearances" and post wish lists online to get people to buy them things and send to them.

they could be a "rocker" and flip the camera off 100% of the time. :)

And all selfies aren't.....

not at all. i would agree a majority are, but i've taken pics of me somewhere to illustrate a point. like at a car dealership that ignored me so i took a pic in front of their sign to send it to them and say "waited for 30 min, you ignored me, i bought a chrysler instead". i've got several of my sister taking selfies with her and my dad cause my dad won't do it and she just wanted pics of "adventures" to have. don't think she's even put many of those "online" - just kept them for herself.

Well those are different. Those have a point to them as opposed to just " here is a picture of me for no reasom" selfies

Before there were "selfies", there were "self portraits".

When people say "selfie", there's a very particular asthethic they intend. Which is not the same as taking a photo of yourself.

I would say the statue doesn't depict the "Selfie" asthethic, it just looks like someone taking a photo with their friend.

Yeah...I think we all went through that phase in our lives...but in our cases it was probably with polaroids as our instant cameras.

Selfies aren't only teenage girls. I can't even go on vacation anymore without having to walk on egg shells to avoid stepping in someone's frame. It's everyone nowadays. Young, old, male, female, white, black, gay, straight. I hadn't been on vacation in about 15 or so years but I recently started going quite a bit with my new job and girlfriend. It's not how I remembered it. Nowadays it's politely standing in line for 40 minutes to sit on a horse in front of the Welcome to Vegas sign and paying $30 for the same photo that 5 million other unoriginal tourists have on their refrigerator.
