So, Jaylon Smith's surgery was January 6. Team doctor says:

"While Cooper says Smith’s nerve injury wasn’t in a more severe category and he has “a very good chance of the nerve recovering,” there is no way to be certain that’ll happen or speed up the process. Nerves regrow at a rate of about 1 inch per month after a one-month lag time, Cooper said, and the injured area is roughly 6 inches above the muscle, so Smith has at least several more months of wait-and-see ahead."

So doing the math: Jan. 6 + one-month lag + 6 months for 6 inches of nerve = August 6. Obviously not a firm date, but if all holds true, we should know something around that time. Would be awesome news during camp if the nerve refires and the drop foot is gone.

What's the status on the recovery of his knee injury? Is his knee fully recovered already?

Dr Cooper actually said 'around 1 inch a month'.
Stephen Jones on one of his radio interviews said that it is '1 to 1.5 inches a month'. So the window has just started.

He had a more serious injury than Sean Lee had. There was no worry about whether a nerve was going to regenerate with him.

From what I have read more than once, the kid just has the intangibles to be what this defense needs, so I think they're willing to gamble he makes a full recovery. If he does or I should say when he does, we will have ourselves a jersey-selling player. Lee's injuries on the other hand do make you hesitate - think of the career he might have had injury-free... But still I think it was a great pick!

If one does not wish to make a gamble in sports...one just doesn't end up with a final product of great. The challenge is part of that journey...and you can't protect your way out of that.

I have no problem admitting he was my pet cat before the draft then I was only so so when we drafted him and now he's my pet cat again haha
