Duncan retires

I echo Joe's sentiments. I remember watching him play at Wake and being so impressed with his ability to understand the game and make the smart play, almost always. He was unique in that he had such a good understanding of the game at such a young age. Lots of kids have talent but you put that together with an exceptional knowledge of the game and then you have something special.

Great player and good for him. He has earned it.

My favorite player all-time in any sport. I knew this was coming but I'll still miss seeing him on the court. I wish him all the best in future endeavors.

"Hey Dad, Tim Duncan retired".

"I know he is your favorite, are you ok?"

Me - "Son I am a grown man"

goes in room.

Tanking the previous season so they could draft him when they didn't deserve to be able to draft him.

That's bush league, low character, and completely low class.

You mean two decades ago? Get over it already. This thread is about showing respect to a great career, not your hijacking of it.

19 years later, 5 championships 17 straight seasons with more than 50 wins, and the Spurs Management kindly says

You guys are all just angry because your POS franchise got called out.

I'm a Mavs fan all the way, but I've followed Tim Duncan since his early days at Wake Forest.
He was one of the game's good guys for sure.

Guess that leaves Dirk as maybe the only player besides Kobe that will play his whole career on one team and for 20 years .:D

I'm just impressed they went all in by rigging David Robinson's chair on the plane to collapse, and throw him into back spasms, which caused him to miss 18 games. And THEN by breaking his foot six games after he came back, and causing him to miss the entire season in a cast with screws in his feet.

http://www.nytimes.com/1996/12/25/sports/spurs-robinson-breaks-his-foot.html

And then they had the wherewithal to ALSO make sure that Sean Elliott (their other all-star) missed all but 39 games with an injury, and made it believable by only playing him in 36 games the following year.

And then ensuring that with all that CLEARLY intentional tanking, and having still only the third best odds to win the lottery at a 22% chance, they were still able to rig the system and get the 1st overall pick.

Good detective's eye you have there.

And five-time champion POS franchise, you mean.

My Rockets tanked to get Sampson and tanked again the next year to get Hakeem. I was all for it.

Duncan was one of the best. A real champion and in a cultural era of " it's all about me ", he was a throwback. He did his job and is an all-time great.
