Let's Make a Deal: Cowboys should re-sign DE Jeremy Mincey yesterday
http://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/2016/07/13/dallas-cowboys-should-re-sign-jeremy-mincey-yesterday/

It’s no secret the Cowboys are hurting for a pass rush going into the 2016 season.

It was meager in 2015 and now they’ll have to subtract starting defensive ends Randy Gregory and Demarcus Lawrence (who led the team with eight sacks last year) for the first four games, and starting LB Rolando McClain to the tune of a 10-game suspension; leaving the club scrambling for solutions like eggs in a skillet.

They drafted DE Charles Tapper and DT Maliek Collins in the hopes of plugging them into the rotation immediately; but Collins broke his foot early in the offseason and is still working to return (ETA late preseason)...

I would like to at least get to training camp and see what we have before we start writing articles on who should be signed. Especially players no other teams in the league seems to be interested in .

I know he was the one who said that Hardy was a cancer in the locker room. Funny that they didn't resign him, too.

One way to describe it.

But if I'm signing a veteran pass rusher, give me Dwight Freeney, who had 8 sacks in 11 games and another key sack in the playoffs, over a guy who did nothing after holding out for a raise last year.

To say nothing of each player's past reputations

Taking into account what was said about Hardy from Mincey. Im leaning more towards he was trying to make his competition look bad to sign a deal and get him out the door. Obviously we now know what Hardy did and all of that, but Mincey was for sure thinking about himself and his money when he made that statement.

Or maybe, Mincey was just speaking the truth. He even said something to the effect of "it is him or me - we can't be in the same locker room." Why would you say "him or me" if you was just thinking about your own money. The two would be looking at very different types of contracts.

He was telling the organization its him or me. Saying that right after throwing him under the bus is basically saying, him or me, but choose me, because thus and so.

Not going to happen. They already let a better option- Jason Jones- pass through the facility and he wound up with Miami. I'd rather see what Russell, Tapper, Mayowa, and Irving have to offer.

I'd be fine with Mincey as vet depth for the minimum. Freeney would be my preference. At this point, we're rolling with a TON of unproven youngsters, and our two best pass rushers have issues with using banned substances.

I realize you don't want to break the bank for a starter when you're four games away from adding two quality young talents back at DE-- but having a vet with starting experience to help fill out the rotation would be a wise move imo. Freeney could contribute as a situational rusher for the entire year.

I will give Stephen credit: he is sticking to his plan and is NOT overspending on FA. He is standing pat with the talent on the roster on D. Either he knows something we don't-- or he's going to look like a jackass for not addressing the situation more intentionally this offseason.

I think there is something to that and I also think that is why he is a FA. That and holding out while not producing.

He didn't exactly call him a locker room cancer, but he blew the doors open for media speculation, something the Cowboys were trying to avoid..

Yeah, like what he says is going to make any difference in what they do with Hardy. Mincey saw himself as a leader and spoke out. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd much prefer to develop our youngsters with upside than to sign a guy who held out, took his money and failed to earn it. We have several young players at least showing possibilities of developing into valuable contributors with due development. It would seem a shame to waste their chances for someone like that.

Only way Minced is back on team is in the broadcast booth or maybe as an assistant. Freeney is much better FA signing, age be damned.
