Andy Reid was on The Herd today, and when asked specifically about Dak, Reid was very complemtary and optimistic about what he's seen thus far -- much to the chagrine of Colin, and despite it being only preseason, tho he did acknowledge that preseason is certainly not a just gauge (my paraphrase).

That wasn't the best part -- the best part was when Andy told an anecdote of when he drafted Fletcher Cox. He said when he drafted Cox, that Cox said Dak is the real deal, and to keep an eye on the dude. Reid remembered that, I thought that was a cool little Dak story.

Side note, Andy Reid is a good human being and an above-avg coach, if our beloved Boys don't make it, I wouldn't mind him getting a ring, only now that he's out of Philly. Same for Arians (though, Arians is more than above-avg imo)

I agree with him on Romo. However, I don't get the criticism of Dak. If it was so easy to have this type of success for rookie QBs then why don't we see this from every rookie QB? What Dak is doing is incredible and he deserves the hype. Will he take the next step and preform in the regular season? Who knows. But up til this point he has passed every test with flying colors.

I agree but i didn't see it as criticism of Dak but just a reality check.

That threw me off, too. Granted, Colin isn't watching every snap of Dak's with the same analytical eye that we do here at Cowboyszone, but this is my rationale when he debates Dak, now. He is just not watching close enough. It's all there, and lots and lots of respectable football people are seeing it.

I thought that was more of an act but it does show how he is. I thought the best indicator was when he blew his back out against the skins, lead the team down the field with the game wiinning TD to keep us in the playoff picture and then have surgery a few days later. I don't think that act of heroism gets enough fanfare, it was simply amazing.

I agree with him 100% about the lack of respect Romo gets and it's pathetic. This team would've been a 4-12 to 6-10 team for the past 6 years without Tony. I also agree that Dak is getting a bit too much praise. Yes, he has performed phenomenally in the two pre-season games and I'm thrilled with it. I hope it translates into a Hall of Fame career, but everyone should tap the brakes a bit. Anyone that thinks he should replace Romo as the starter right now is nothing more than a blithering idiot.

I think there's two different arguments going on in this thread, probably due to the ptsd of all those crazy trade Romo/start Dak threads that have been showing up this week.

It's okay to love Tony as the starter, want him to stay the starter til ~2018 and also enjoying the flip outta this Dak revelation. They can be mutually exclusive, me thinks

I agree. We've all pretty much agreed that a SB appearance is the only thing that will earn him that respect across the board. And what's crazy is if Romo is injured this season missing games, the national media will basically demand Jerry to hand the keys over to Dak and drop Tony.

Cowherds got some valid points but I am not a fan of his whiny, sound bite style. He just bugs me.

This. He lost me once he said the only thing missing was Romo. Dez was out too and when he came back he was not Dez. And McFadden was not Murray. Forget the 1100 yards or whatever, while impressive they were largely ineffective. Couldn't score or convert first downs.

I love romo. He's my favorite player ever, and the season was lost primarily because he went down, but not exclusively

Cowherd has been a huge Romo supporter for a long time now. But he has to see what Dak is doing and respect that as well. Overall I like Fox Sports much more than Espn and Cowherd is one the reasons.

If ESPN hadn't fired Cowherd already, they would have after he made these comments. ESPN still looks at Romo through it's 2006 glasses.

I'm to the point where I don't care what other people think about Romo anymore. I know he has been a fantastic quarterback and that is good enough for me. It also seems like he is a real down to Earth guy too. I'd love to see him get a ring but Dallas just can't seem to put a FULL team around him.

A lot of people that aren't Dallas fans never realize either that he was never even a drafted QB. For being undrafted he has immensely exceeded expecatations. There are plenty of 1st rounders that have'nt even been able to sniff being in the same caliber class as Romo.

It really is sad that he doesn't get the respect. Us true fans know though.

Excellent post. What people have to realize with Romo was that when he first started (2006-08 timeframe), he was not a polished passer. He took a lot of chances, tried to make every play the game winner, and was loving the celebrity life of a young NFL quarterback (remember Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson?)

As Romo matured as a player, passer, and yes, person, the talent level around him dropped (2010-13 timeframe). The Cowboys built a Super Bowl contending team in 2014 and we saw how great a player he truly was. Last year was a waste due to the clavicle, and now I just pray the window for him hasn't closed. In my dreams I see Romo lifting a big silver football next to Jason Witten. What those two guys have been through together would make that one of the greatest moments in Dallas Cowboys history.

Romo gets the blame from casual fans which make up the bulk of fans who basically just catch the highlites, headlines and results .

QB's have to live with their signature games and unfortunately for the masses it's defined by blunders and lack of success in playoffs.

A lot of fans couldn't careless how many 4th qtr comebacks you have, etc if your 8-8.

Ultimately , unlike any other position a QB's greatness is judged more by the teams success.

That would be so bittersweet for Romo fans like myself. To watch him make the sacrifices he's made, physically and mentally all these years, and retire without a ring and then see Dak do it instead.

I'm an old fan. I remember watching Merideth and how he took brutal criticism from the fans and media. And he had a pretty darn good team around him.

And that Packer team he lost to was considered the greatest team ever.

But he later was more appreciated by the sportswriters , critics and fans becoming our 1st QB in Ring of Honor winning over hearts everywhere.
