I think Romo had to actually lead his team to wins in the regular season games. Even turn the season around and lead them to the playoffs.
Dak's is just in 2 halves of two practice games.
You're right about it going south on Tony after the special teams blunder. Somehow that translated to "bad QB or choker". Some never let it go from a decade ago.
Just wish we could have fun with Dak and let the kid continue to grow. So far, so good.
I think part of that is that no one ever knew what the plan was with Romo. He was just an undrafted guy who made the back end of the roster in 2013 serving as the third-string guy and then seemed to only make the roster the next year because Quincy Carter was released. Parcells brought in Testaverde and Bledsoe to be his starters, so nothing ever really was expected to come of Romo.
A lot more is being made of Prescott in the preseason because everyone knows Dallas needs both a quarterback of the future and a No. 2 QB. Let's say we had drafted Derek Carr last year as the QB of the future and then turned around and drafted Prescott this year. Prescott might still be getting accolades for his play but it would be much more subdued.
Romo was always overshadowed by the potential of Chad Hutchinson and Drew Henson when he was always a much better QB. For some of us, his play in the preseason of 2006 confirmed that he was the actual QB of the future but a lot of fans and media didn't really see that until he took over in the regular season. (Payton even tried to steal him for a third-round pick in 2006 because no one knew yet that he was worth a first.)
