An 0-2 hole would be even more costly to Cowboys

FRISCO, Texas -- There have been a lot of storylines entering the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 2 game at the Washington Commanders.

Dez Bryant vs. Josh Norman. Alfred Morris’ homecoming. Can the defense find a pass rush? Can the Cowboys get Bryant going? How will Dak Prescott fare in his first road start?

The biggest, however, has not been touched on much and that’s the importance of avoiding an 0-2 start.

Under the current playoff format, which was adopted in 1990, only 12 percent of the teams that started 0-2 went on to make the playoffs (26 of 214), according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Having lost to the New York Giants in Week 1, the Cowboys will look to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2010. Before that, the Cowboys last 0-2 start came in 2001.

I disagree. Our schedule is a bit more forgiving and we also should get our starting QB, both starting defensive ends and our starting MLB back.

If we play the scared football we have been playing and leave dez in one spot most of the game and lose. Garrett will have to go

I just don't understand how they haven't figured out to move him around. I mean you're paid a crap ton of money to figure out what every armchair QB knows.

It's a weak division, no one is going out and winning the east this year. The condensers can only hope to not suck enough.

Didn't the giants win the super bowl in 07 after starting 0-2 and later swept by their hated rival?

Week 1 was very close and we gave that game away. Giants were 1 point away from this thread being started on there board lol. Washington is very close from this being started on their board.

NFC EAST is as normal always crazy

People often mis-use statistics and ignore context.

How many 0-2 teams have their starting qb come back ~week 7? How many of those teams went on to the playoffs?

How many 0-2 teams have their starting defensive ends suspended for 4 weeks? How many of those teams went on to the playoffs?

Context matters. Not all 0-2 teams are equal.

Going 0-2 would really suck. It'd be ironic if we go 0-2 and make playoffs when we started 2-0 last year and fell short.

Assume the position and brace yourself for impact.

The only reason I'll get through this is the fact that Hail to the Commanders is one of my favorite songs.

if they lose today means they have won 2 out of the last 15 games also 0 and 2 with a rookie qb will be really hard to overcome if they go to 0 and2 its going to be a long season at some time you have to stop the losing or most places you do

Actually last week, Dez lined up on both sides, in the slot, and was in motion a few times....too many fans hear or read something that may or may not be true and then go with it like wildfire.
He does not line up wide left every play and run basic routes.
But hey, people still think Jerry calls plays from his box, so go ahead and believe.....:muttley:

Dez does need to concentrate better to hang onto the ball though as he goes to the ground.

Funny you said that, I just saw some game tape from last week him lining up in different spots. We definitely should attack the middle with him tho. Commanders defense is very weak in that spot

I agree with everything except the starting MLB comment. McClain is never coming back. There is a reason he doesn't have a locker at the new facility and a reason Garrett said they'd be moving on from some guys.

I'm just excited for our 18th straight must win game

I am glad that ESPN is around to teach us that 0-2 is a bad start. AMAZING journalism!

2-4 in the first six game would be terrible...still better than last year. 3-3 isnt out of the question.

And 7-3 with Romo after that is not far-fetched

9-7 to 10-6 might do the trick.

Wow ... I'm having flash backs from last year. Was this a copy and paste from last year's threads? I think we knew what happened ... don't expect Romo back.

Our DE's weren't world beaters before they went on suspension ... I'm not expecting the D to suddenly turn around.
