How bad is this DL?

We have got to start using high draft picks to address it at some point. I don't care what Marinelli tells ownership about his ability to make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

You mean like DLaw and Gregory? Those draft picks high enough for you?

game on the line, pure pass rush situation and we send out 4 DT's to get after the QB. Can't make this stuff up

'They are who we thought they were!'

Nobody that has anything to do with this team has any right to be surprised. It's what most of us said they would be, coming to fruition. At this point, you 'hold on' and hope Lawrence is a savior when he returns from suspension, and you hope that Davis - the guy they got off the street - can give you what the guys you were counting on obviously can't.

Once again, hope becomes the strategy...

youre such a hater stash
Lawrence and Gregory will be terrorizing opposing QBs for the next decade

The defense line is just not good. McClain is the most consistent but other than that.............. not much else.

Although I did see some nice hustle plays from Collins too. DE is a wasteland. Mayowa gets swallowed up way too easily. Irving is really a DT, not a DE. Jack Crawford had that one sack but he's really just a JAG.

Basically, we are left hoping that Lawrence can pick up where he left off last year AND then someone from the other side, either Tapper or Gregory (if he's back after 4 games) can provide some pass rush when teams inevitably start doubling Lawrence.

Would any of our DL even be serviceable rotation players on a good team say like Seattle or Carolina?

McClain. Lawrence.

Anyone watch Minnesota and GB? Did you see how active both fronts are? Only a pure homer would watch those teams play and then conclude we are in the same ballpark as them in terms of generating pressure.

the teams defensive roster is a total mess. They can't count on players being active through injuries or suspensions and they end up trying to juggle their way through.

Dlaw only a few more weeks and hopefully tapper and by some miracle hopefully Gregory

Lawrence will definitely make a difference in 3 weeks. But we need more. Collins appears to be a guy who will be a good rotational pass rushing DT. Maybe he even takes Crawford's starting spot next season.

They need the two young guys back.
Even then it'll be sub-par

I'll wait until after we get some guys back before passing judgement. IIRC we were usually rushing 4 and they were blocking with 5 or 6, we just need a couple of players that can command double teams and things will get better.

Vikings rushed four last night and could get after Rodgers.

The front office grossly overestimated the talent they had along the DL and probably overestimated Marinelli's skill in turning hot dogs into filet mignon.

They are bad but Marinelli is worse and it trickles down to our gm/owner not addressing our needs.

The line is pretty bad. Lawrence is legitimately a good player and will help. What surprises me the most is teams have been able to run on us inside fairly regularly. I expected to struggle with pressure, but I thought we'd be able to stretch, fill, and contain fairly well. As it is, we don't do much of anything well yet.

We don't have any right to be surprised. We don't have talent on defense. What should surprise us is we're not imposing our will on anybody with the offensive running game, either.

Right now this defense reminds me a lot of the 2014 defense. They fight hard and came up with the plays in crunch time stopping the 4th down play as Durant make an excellent play to prevent the skins from getting the 1st. The defense held the Commanders to 0 4th qrt points and got a big sack and turnover late in the game.

Yes this defense has issues but they do play hard and with a lot of heart.

As many stated. Its one of the worst I have EVER seen take the field. Its horrid.

I feel like I always have.

I like our DT's.. No real difference makers at DT but they are a good group.

DE is pretty bad.

Our hope is that Gregory & Lawrence come back and by December we see those investments pay dividends.

Mo is playing well, Carr has been ok, Linebackers need to improve, and knowing assignments need to improve.

If you want hope... Nzeocha, Lawrence, Gregory, and Durant give me a bit of hope.

Durant turning it on late yesterday was a nice surprise. Let's hope he keeps it up.
