It's frustrating for me to see different ex Dallas Coaches and players, that failed or were mediocre here, succeed with other teams. Zimmer is a prime example.
Man, there's a lot to be said for getting away from the atmosphere in Dallas. Though Zimmer coached a fairly rag-tag group to a #1 overall defensive rating in Dallas. Then he switched gears and took them from the 4-3 to a respectable 3-4 in Parcels' 2nd year. He earned Parcels' respect during that time, all while the GROZ stuff was sweeping the board.
My point is, a lot of good coaching goes on without Cowboys fans ever recognizing it for what it is. We had the same thing going on with Sean Payton's play calling that we've got now with Linehan. We had people *****ing about Wade Phillips' defense, for crying out loud. Remember when Terrence Newman was done? People become lightening rods because there's comfort in numbers. Often it doesn't have all that much to do with actual performance. A sound bite is enough to get somebody tarred and feathered. Just last week it was going around that Dez doesn't get moved around at all in formations, for example, when his TD drop came out of the slot. People don't bother to look, and then the repeat what they've heard somebody else say and once the opinion is out there, it becomes fact and there's no changing it with the actual facts. It's too late.
