get my two pole license, get my rods and reels set and just put my mind in a positive place. That Catfish you see me with, I had mad respect for the fight he gave me, and had no way to cook him, so I hope I see him again soon. I now atleast have a grill, and the proper tools to dispatch the poor thing, without torturing it. As far as I know he's still swimming and I know where to look....and that folks is how I stay sane while still loving this team with all I have
 
Never done much catfishin', myself. I'm more of a trout guy. Good on ya for the catch and release. I let go of the biggest Brown Trout I ever caught (10 lbs. 7 oz.) thinking I'd catch a bigger one to mount at a later date. Haven't sniffed one that big since
 
I love to fish. But, one thing I never understood about fishing.

If it's supposed to be relaxing, why do I get so pissed off? :laugh:

That's one hell of a brown, good on you for letting it get bigger, maybe next time you get him again...shoot he'll be 11 lbs. done a lot of trout fishing, I live in the northwest, mostly rainbows or cutthroats for me, still on the hunt for my first steelhead, if I can that's in my crosshairs this year.
 
I normally fish in the bay on South Padre Island, catch a few trout and park the boat at one of the many restaurants, they will clean and cook your fish anyway you like and serve it will all the fixings.
My teenage daughter caught her first fish last year, a 43 inch Black Drum. I'll never forget the look on her face. It was oversized, released it.

Don't know what the game and fish laws are where you live but in many states you have to buy a special stamp or license to fish with more than one pole in the water at a time. It's that way here in Arizona and was the same when I lived in Wyoming, IIRC.

In Texas you just buy a fishing license and you can use as many poles ad you want.
 
We can't use more than two poles if the the body of water is stocked with trout by the DNR for part of the year Like January through April or something like that. But that was not much of an issue because most places that the DNR stocked trout it was so fished out as soon as it was stocked that we rarely bothered going there due to being too crowded.

However for the most part when we went fishing I would throw a line in for bottom bait and then to keep myself moving around I would use a different pole for artificial lures.

At one time I had a pretty substantial amount of fishing equipment. Not many poles but Two massive Plano tackle boxes completely full and a few smaller ones that I would take with me on occasion.

Have not fished in years though. Imagine most of the lures (rubber worm variants) have probably melted or have gone bad by now and the poles would all have to get new line and tuned up.
 
Two poles,,,back in my 20's I had just bought another brand new rod/reel and there was a 4th of July party at this farmers home I'd been working for, so me and him were on the bank of one of there catfish ponds along the driveway, and I'm bout half in the bag blowing off about how I'm such an up-n-commer,great man of means,and exceptional skill and dexterity by operating two poles at the same time,,, and he's cracking up, then one of his 20 lb brood fish took that chicken liver hook and WHAM,, that $60some dollar outfit shot straight out like a fricking torpedo leaving a slight vee ripple and a vapor trail of bubbles,,,, that old man REALLY started cracking up then,,, I didn't think it was funny at all back then.:lmao:

I am in the same boat. Although the last two winters have been mild enough that I have been able to get the boat in on Lake Champlain at least a couple times every month of the winter. Last year was the first time ever for trolling in February. Trolling for landlocked salmon and steelhead. Occasional brown trout. Lake Trout are there for the taking but I don't like catching those slimers very much.

Gave it a shot once, scared me to death. I really want another shot at deep sea fishing. That's what I'm thinking, I just have a hard time not fishing I guess.

last year I picked up a new toy that I love.

it's hard seeing it hanging out in the garage all the time. I live on a lake too, so, so I'm constantly reminded of what I can't do all winter long

Ice fishing is a great past time. Just need a shack and booze. Caught a lot of nice fat Pickerel through the ice!
