It's funny how people forget how bad this offense is when our backup QB is called upon

For years it was always the same thing. If Tony went down the backup couldn't get the job done. Even if for just a game or two the backup couldn't hold things together. Before Tony we couldn't even find a starter.
Now we finally have both and most on here are willing to trade Romo for a 2nd rounder and a bag of chips. Everyone needs to know that once you trade him you are right back in the situation of trying to find a backup QB, one of the most underrated positions in all of football and one of our biggest downfalls as I mentioned. Did everyone not see Sanchez against the Eagles? That is what you get if Dak goes down or has a sophomore slump. I honestly think that the chances of Dak having a second year slump are very small but you never know and I think that keeping Tony at least for this next year coming up is worth it. Believe it or not but his trade value of a 2nd round pick would most likely be the same in 18. I wouldn't doubt that if needed for a game or two fans would be more than happy with the outcome if number 9 was needed. Heck, I would actually trade a second round pick for a stud backup QB.
 
Romo needs to go if not for simply freeing up cap space or getting draft picks but simply so we don't have to hear his name here anymore. He's like this big cloud of smoke that Dak and this team can't run away from.

I think you need to send this to Tony Romo, not this forum.

Nobody - including the Joneses - are pushing Romo out the door.

He's choosing to leave rather than be this team's backup.

The team would gladly keep him as a backup, but Romo wants to play and start. That's the issue.

So the only mind you need to change would be his.
 
What I find is funny is that don't recall anyone being worried a Romo's play dropping after his first year as a starter.
 
I don't want to see him leave, but having said that ,I'm certain he'll
" ride for the brand " wherever he lands,, and that's something I do wanna see.
We knew the d.l. needed help b-4 going into last season, MAYBE it is addressed with some of this 'cap money' by romo's trade?,,, only time will prove right or wrong by cutting him loose, my gut check call is huge mistake losing him.

Tony as a back up at a reasonable price sure but at a base of 14 mill this season, 19.5 next season and 20 mill the last season of the contract there is no way in hell any GM with an ounce of sense is going to do that. Dallas has other needs

I agreed with you up until the last sentence. We shouldn't, and hopefully won't, put respect for Tony above our team's needs. That's my biggest concern with Jerry.

"Stud backups" are called average starters in the NFL right now, it takes more than a #2 to get them. Mark Sanchez or Kellen Moore is as good as you get unfortunately.

And in 2015 we played three backups, Weeden actually had one good game until he went into a mental fetal position and checked down every play. Cassell stunk it up but Kellen Moore had an average to good game in the final loss to the Commanders with 400 yards passing.

I love a Ruth Chris steak, but I can't eat one every night and I also can't buy one at McDonalds.
 
How about we trust our coaching staff, draft someone with a late round pick and keep Moore?

Dak didn't come into the league NFL ready, this coaching staff did an excellent job with his development and they may have the skills to develop another QB at least until he is at the least decent backup, best case scenario they are a decent trade option. The Patriots seem to do a good job drafting quarterbacks and trading them in a few years for a higher pick. Hate it or love it, 20 million is just silly for a backup QB.

Also remember, the coaching staff was very high on Showers.
