Bill Paxton Dead at 61 Due to Complications from Surgery

Emmy-winning actor Bill Paxton died due to complications from surgery, PEOPLE confirms.

“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” a family representative said in a statement. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

The Texas native, who won an Emmy for his work in the TV mini-series Hatfields and McCoys, began acting in the 1970s. His earliest acting credits include minor roles in blockbusters such as Terminator (1984) and Aliens (1986).

Great guy, played a few iconic characters with iconic lines, and has played in one of my guilty pleasures - Twister.

Also, for anyone who hasn't watched it yet, check out the show Big Love. Like many shows that started around 06-07, the writer's strike kinda took away the quality of the show when it returned but he was fantastic throughout.

Twister was a quality film. Especially for the time

Sorry to hear of this...

Great character actor... "Twister"... "Aliens"...

Oh, and I can never miss the chance to give it a shout out - Tombstone. More of a Russell and Kilmer movie, but Paxton's role is good as well.

Will always remember him for his roles in Tombstone and True Lies. He delivered many memorable lines in both films.

Paxton is also in one of my all time favorite movies- Frailty. I believe he also directed or produced that movie as well. Great film. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Game over man.... Game over
As morbid sounding as that is, that particular quote from one of his best supporting acting characters is a fitting tribute. All (literally) of his lines from Aliens were well delivered.

Titanic and Twister are both in my top 10 favorite movies all time.....not only a Texan, but a DFW guy....

So bummed. First movie I saw him in was Weird Science.

R.I.P Bill

I just started watching his new series, Training Day. Rest in Peace.

How 'bout a nice greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray?
