Maybe this is a dumb question, but is it possible to write contracts to give the club an option to convert contracts with years with no remaining guarantees into a UFA deal that expires prior to the start of free agency? In a case like Tony's letting a club sign him instead of us technically cutting him, and qualifying the club for a comp pick the next season? Does that work against the player in some obvious way I'm not thinking about where they wouldn't allow it in a negotiation?
