Stephen Jones on FA losses

It would be nice to get a solid edge rusher and a playmaking safety in the first 2 rounds. I'd even rather move Jones back to CB if we can get a better FS prospect like Hooker or Baker.

It's fair to be skeptical.

But I find it funny how most of the fanbase gives David Irving the benefit of the doubt as a guy who deserves a chance to start despite only flashing for a few games, yet Heath isn't given the same benefit of the doubt.

Both are UDFA's, physically gifted, flashed for a few games, played behind JAG's on a weak unit.

Yet Heath doesn't get the same love.

Irving has flashed way more than heath ...don't take us for idiots

Yeah. It is easy to tell that the front office is now running the team correctly. Talking about leaders, character, taking BPA, and focusing on the right things.

Sure is nice to finally trust the team to make good, sound decisions. I have felt this way since about 2011. Before that it was when Jimmy was still picking players.

The move away from Wade Phillips is when the team started doing well in the front office. Stephen took more of a hand in it and Will McClay got steadily elevated.

I think I figured out what Jerry is looking for in the draft. A War Daddy with a bubble butt that has the secret sauce. Who fits that description ?

Irving is a much more proven commodity. Also, Irving went undrafted for off-field concerns. He was a draftable talent.

The Cowboys have done well IMO managing the offseason...

They're in line for 4 comp picks.

Compare that to the Bills who lost several players also, won't get a comp pick.

That's just math. It means we haven't signed as many qualifying free agents to replace the ones we lost. Those comp picks will be great in 2018. They do nothing for our defense this year.

We're getting some good ones this year for losses last year as well. Don't be deliberately obtuse.

"We are not going to get any better on defense if we just keep paying the guys we got,” Jones said. “What we have to do better on defense is we have to get pressure on the passer. And we have to make plays on the ball. We have to do that better."

“Obviously we haven’t been doing that with the guys we got. So how do you get better if you keep paying the guys you got who aren’t making plays on the ball a lot of money?”

Sounds like we're doing what we want.

S Jones on J Heath's game vs. Pack: "If you turn on the tape & watch that, there are a lot of people who wonder why isn't that guy starting"

Heath is a quality backup IMO and possibly a "glue guy" on a team. I respect the Jones family as a whole and Stephen very much but the only folks who wonder why Heath isn't starting are at the Star or used to work for the Joneses.

Upgrade the defense as a whole and the starting safety next to Byron Jones. Do love that he continues to relay the emphasis the team is putting on the defensive side of the ball for 2017.

I've been saying that he was better than Church and Bad Angle Wilcox for over a year.
