My Focus ST was almost built for this. I bought a double din dash kit, a USB OTG Y cable, and a DC tp DC usb connection for power. I used a 3.5mm input that my car already has, and a group loop isolator to prevent noise.
The reason I say my car was built for this, was because the actual headunit of the car sits behind the factory bezel, so I get to keep 99% of my car's stock functionality. You can see here:
I had to dremel into the right hand vent to fit the charging cable, but you can't tell. I used some foam and double sided tape to fix it permanently.
Timur makes a Kernel that allows fast charging and auto shutdown and firm sleep mode. When powered off, it will go to deep sleep, which will last about 15 days on a full

I am using Car Home Ultra in the second pic as the launcher. I use Waze for navigation, Spotify for music, and Tune In Radio for The Ticket and Podcasts.
My phone acts as a hotspot. I am working on away to automatically enable this, but Tasker isn't working right now with my S8.
