Lucky the scapegoat?

Details are still murky and I generally am in favor of more discipline for this team, but if Lucky's agent is right, it seems like he was scapegoated to make a point. News stories say Lucky was "summonsed" to appear for petit larceny charge. Which means he was not arrested at the scene, but rather was given a court date to appear. And the summons says the time of the incident was 130 am when he was supposedly was not yet in VA (his flight landed 1130 am). If that is true, his comments that he was unaware of the court date and his agent's comments that he was not there at the time of the incident MAY be true (I don't think they are; there is probably video). Anyway, I think the cut had more to do with Switzer and sending a message than Lucky's guilt.

Definitely a weird situation all around. Writing was on the wall for him regardless, but if it was indeed not him (***) he got a bum deal and definitely scapegoated. And it’s a really hollow show of discipline from Garrett

If so, gives him time to catch on with another team regardless. He was probably not going to be a factor anyway. Switzer was already ahead of him according to many fans. And Noah Brown even pushing him for a spot as well.
As Lucky was not all that off a WR, yet. And his return skills were still questionable.

And he did have a few other incidences that add up. Though nothing in itself. But missing a fight to a game I believe it was, because he was up until 3 AM snap chatting and overslept. But IIRC rumors were he was out at a club....but I am not sure of that either....

I don't really care too much about losing the player, but if this particular situation was meant to send a message AFAIC the message is hollow as hell. Meaningless and desperate. You don't just do something for the sake of doing it and expect results. Players will see through that ****. This says no more than if you are a fringe player don't screw up, if you are important you got a really long leash. You cut someone important, that would send a message.

He still is partially at fault. He CLEARLY knew about the first court appearance and did nothing from everything I can find. DUMB. You get that (either through the mail or whatever) and the first thing you do is either talk to your lawyer or get one. This is NOT something an agent is equipped to deal with. Unless his agent was just as dumb lucky never told him about the summons. You get on top of this right away. IF it is true and it is not him then it would be pretty easy at the hearing to show this and it ends there.

Like I said from the get-go, I would wait to see how this all plays out. Those that 'don't care' are those that find it impossible to ever admit they are wrong.

By the same token, we should see how this all plays out for the Cowboys as well. I tend to think the Cowboys didn't like the people Lucky was hanging out with. The dog kidnapping was real suspicious because I don't think some wannabe rapper with a criminal background just happens to steal your dog and hold it for ransom unless they know you. And I think there's a good chance that whomever shoplifted gave Lucky's name as a fake name and Lucky knows the person and that's a disaster in the making.

I believe Lucky was expendable, but it's foolish to assume that Switzer will automatically stay healthy or will never struggle. And call me crazy, but I like competition between unproven players. If Lucky is 'taking away reps' from another receiver and that receiver can't handle that...then that receiver isn't made for the NFL anyway.

As I said in another thread, if you want to have accountability it starts with getting stories right. I'd rather be right than be fair.

Not saying I don't like it. Just calling it what it was. Damien Wilson wasn't immediately cut. He allegedly did something much worse. But he's a starter and maybe didn't have Lucky's history.

Lucky was not immediately cut, he was arrested June 22nd. Seeing an event play out and knowing all the facts before they make any move seems prudent. How often do we see people jump to conclusions about a player only to find out details that shows the other side of the story.

According to his agent he didn't know about the court appearance because he never received anything in the mail since it was a crime he didn't commit and it was a crime committed out of the state he resides in.

I agree. It is likely he knew about court date which makes him irresponsible and dumb. But what I can't tell from story is whether there was an in person meeting with cops. A summons may be mailed. If no in person meeting, his excuse is more possible.

Seems like Lucky was cut, though, as soon as team found out he missed the court date. And his agent has an explanation the team did not care about, or believe. Team acted quick IMO.
