QB: Dak Pescott, Kellen Moore
I really hate our back-up QB situation. If Prescott goes down, we are screwed.
RB: Ezekiel Elliott, Darren McFadden, Rod Smith
I’m giving Rod Smith the edge over Alfred Morris, because of what he can do in the passing game. That is one area where Morris has never really developed, and Smith also gives a bit of roster flexibility as well (FB/ST).
FB: Keith Smith
Not much to say here, he’s the best blocker and is good on special teams.
WR: Dez Bryant, Brice Butler, Noah Brown
Brown didn't show too much last night, however, I think he'll get one of the final two roster spots that will ultimately belong to David Irving and Damontre Moore.
WR: Terrence Williams, Cole Beasley, Ryan Switzer
Really want to see Switzer given a chance to return punts and kickoffs.
TE: Jason Witten, James Hanna, Geoff Swaim, Rico Gathers
Hanna and Swaim are really a must, because without them last year, our run game suffered a bit, and while Gathers is developing nicely, he's a long ways from being a #2 or #3 TE.
LT: Tyron Smith, Emmett Cleary
Cleary played well when called upon, but I am a little worried about Tyron's back.
LG: Jonathan Cooper, Byron Bell
I think when Green returns to practice, he'll mover back to his swing tackle role. Just can't count on him to stay available.
C: Travis Frederick, Joe Looney
RG: Zack Martin
Not much to say here either.
RT: La’el Collins, Chaz Green
As said earlier, I think Green settles in here as the swing tackle.
RDE: Demarcus Lawrence, Benson Mayowa, Charles Tapper
This is really a make or break season for Lawrence, I can easily see him buried on the depth chart if Mayowa outplays him this year again and Tapper begins to flash.
DT: Maliek Collins, Joey Ivie
Another guy I'm projecting to make the roster, if only for two weeks. I can't see us carrying only 8 DEs for week 1 & 2, so I think Ivie as well as Neal and a few others will get every opportunity to make the team, if only for a short time.
DT: Cederick Thorton, Stephen Paea
Seems like Thorton is more comfortable this year, which is good and Paea is pretty good depth.
LDE: Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton
I like Crawford more at DT, maybe once Irving comes back and is in game shape, he'll move back to LDE and compete with Taco. I just don't think Crawford gives the team much at this spot.
WLB: Sean Lee, Justin Durant
Really glad they brought Durant back, great depth player.
MLB: Jaylon Smith, Anthony Hitchens
Really think Jaylon will be ready to contribute in a big way come week 1. I'm not saying he's going to play at a near pro-bowl level, but I do see him making more stops near or behind the LOS than Hitchens.
SLB: Damien Wilson, Kyle Wilber
People don't like Wilber, but he's one of the better special teams players on the team. Does nothing for the defense, but people as usual ignore special teams.
CB: Orlando Scandrick, Anthony Brown, Marquez White
For now I'm giving White the nod as the 10th DB, since I think Frazier showed a lot on special teams.
CB: Nolan Carol, Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis
Nolan is the starter for now, but I doubt he is a few weeks into the season. He has a lot of younger players to hold off.
FS: Byron Jones, Xavier Woods
I'm really excited for Xavier Woods, but I think he has a minimal impact at best this season.
SS: Jeff Heath, Kavon Frazier
Frazier had a bad penalty on the first punt, but he was pretty active on the rest of the special teams plays. That's not a good sign for Blanton.
K: Dan Bailey
P: Chris Jones
LS: L.P. Ladocueur
Ivie is the first to go, to make room for Damontre Moore. After that, I don't know, who'd I release for Irving. Moore can easily be released, as well as a few bottom of the roster guys, like Brown, Cleary, Bell or White.
