This appears to be an orchestrated attempt but I don't get it.

It's bad when the NFL appears to be the enemy of the players.

I can't figure out if it's incompetence or an attempt to get the players focus on everything but money when the next CBA negotiations start.

It's probably both.

In an attempt to expand its reach it has alienated a portion of its core audience.
NFL has no business in trying to be a moral compass for its players. Police matters need to be handled by the police.
People watch for entertainment and most don't enjoy the NFL's attempt to walk the political correctness tightrope

Haven't we seen time and again CEO's lead companies, corporations into the ground? What makes anyone think the NFL is different?

The image is what they are trying to protect. But instead of figuring a way to actually have games refereed correctly, rules that allow the players to have fun and show the joy of the game, and remove politics from the game itself and go back to the days when we loved the game for its spontaneity, they attempt to put a hard core structure in place which appeals to them and not the fan.

A. Loosen up on celebrations
B. Get out of the punitive business. Allow the courts to dictate what they do and the NFL needs to oversee football. That is their job.
C. Hire full time referees and train them weekly on last weeks mistakes. Add a couple of referees to the field to get it right.
D. Break fair with the players instead of exploiting them with suffocating rules on the field and off.

The owners believe in the structure they have in place, and only if the fan refuses to buy the product will they understand. This should be a fan driven league and not an owner driven league.

Quite hate it when one brings up "political correctness."
I take that term to mean "the way it was in the 1950s." And that just won't do, blokes.

I think its about time the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 get repealed. When you hit them in the pocket books they will pay attention.

The NFL can't and will never fail.
If it loses its core fans, the idiots and half wits from the MMA circus will take their place.

Somebody mentioned similar attempts to do the same at NASCAR. With similar results.

Their attempts at expanding their audience is backfiring. Instead they are alienating their core audience.

Political correctness is slowly ruining the league.

I hardly think the NFL is killing itself with the Zeke case. Fans have to think of the big picture here. For as many fans that there are that think the NFL looks shady in this deal, there are more that don't think Zeke is clean in this, or simply don't care at all.

The NFL may be hurting itself in some ways, but the Zeke case really isn't one of them.

No.

Political correctness is having a certain group of people dictate to everyone else how to live their lives.

What to say. What car they can drive. Much money they can have. What to eat.

I could go on all day listing things we are allowed or not allowed to do based on what certain people say.

Their biggest mistake is that they think they need to be better than the justice system that specializes in criminal investigations. They absolutely don't and more importantly they aren't.

No one on earth should realistically expect the NFL to punish it's players when the courts decide they will not ... period. Wait until the justice system does their job and mimic their rulings. Later on if a civil trial finds them guilty of wrongdoing you can act on that too if you think it's appropriate.

This is not rocket science, that's what makes the NFL's asinine actions on these issues so maddening. The fact that they are laughably bad at this and don't recognize it makes a lot of smart people look very stupid.

Bingo. It's just like the Saints and then Brady. Saints fans were outraged over bountygate's unfairness and wondered why no one but them seemed to care. Patriots fans were outraged over deflategate unfairness and wondered why no one, besides them, seemed to care. Oh sure, there may have been some sympathy from other fanbases, but I would sure bet that nobody in this forum stopped watching football because of either of those 2 rulings.

That's not a realistic solution. Look at the crapstorm that hit the NFL over Ray Rice. Yes, Rice was arrested, but he never went to trial and was never found guilty of anything. In fact, very few of these cases actually do make it to trial.

If the players want to move to a more NBA lax atomosphere they're gonna have to play 18 regular season games. I'm all for it.

It's not about this case or that case.

Think big picture.

I honestly wonder if that's what this is all about.

The NFLPA is going to be so focused on these issues that they likely give up money or give in to 18 games in exchange for getting Goodell off their backs and doing away with testing for Weed.

I admit, the Ray Rice situation was a little different. You didn't need to investigate that case to watch Rice knock out his fiance in the elevator. But if an investigation is needed to determine wrongdoing let the experts do it. The NFL has proven to be both incompetent and impartial when trying to conduct their own.
