Cowboys can return to formula with Ezekiel Elliott back

With respect to the players who filled in, Dak Prescott said the Cowboys play with a different tempo and aggressiveness when Ezekiel Elliott plays.

"I think the guys who have been running have done an awesome job," Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin said, "but it's in the back of your mind when 21 is in the backfield. I know defenses are thinking about that. I know he's excited to get out there and play, and we're excited to see him."

Prescott said Wednesday's practice had, "a lot of juice."

"I'm not going to say it was exuding from Zeke or it wasn't because of Zeke, but it was a good vibe," Prescott said. "I don't know if it's the wins in a row, or it's that plus Zeke back, or we're just excited for the position we're in or not, but we're happy, and this team is happy, and we have a good attitude moving forward."

Feels like the 13-3 Cowboys from last season are back now that we have a fresh Zeke on the roster and on a 3 game winning streak. This is the perfect time of the season to catch a wave of momentum to go deep into the playoffs. I just hope we qualify for the tournament.

The coaching staff was completely unprepared and caught off guard. Next man up, run the same stuff, no adjustments, yada yada yada.

"You saw it," quarterback Dak Prescott said. "I mean, we ... took it for granted, tried to run the same offense as if Zeke was in the game or on the team and he wasn't. Things were different. It wasn't the same aggressiveness, it wasn't the same tempo and what is the word I'm looking for, demeanor, I guess.

"And then we figured out what works best for us. We got it going there."

It took three games for the Cowboys to adjust, three losses in which the offense scraped together a total of 22 points and dug a hole they're still trying to escape.

Next man up is a valid personnel and motivational concept, one employed by every team, not just the Cowboys. But every coaching staff must give its players more. It must acknowledge the offense can't operate the same without a transcendent player and adapt.
