Dak Prescott Analysis

I said all last year that he lacked anticipation and had other issues that hard work might not be able to fix. People didn't want to listen.

Haha, didn't listen and dogpiled. Hell, a couple members here implied I was racist...

Problem fellas is one Jason Garrett.....................please name me one single QB that has been developed or got better since Clapper took over.

I cant think of a single QB that has gotten better the longer they are with Clapper, most of them either stay the same or get worse. If they are good, it is because they were good when they got here, not because of being developed under Garrett.

So that is a big problem if Dak doesn't right his own ship and figure out what went wrong this season, because expecting Garrett to fix it is laughable.

See, in a way, you guys are responsible for all the criticism Dak is getting. You prop him up as if he were the next Brady. You are quick to give the guy credit for "21 wins" but when the team loses it's never his fault.

Talk about double standards.
LOL you guys! OK he didnt receive the ROTY last year or he didn't set NFL records for completion percentage, touchdown-to-interception ratio and passer rating (104.9) among rookie signal-callers. His 13 regular-season wins also tied Ben Roethlisberger for the most ever by a rookie quarterback. But we homers are responsible for all the criticism Dak is getting? We prop him up, you mean we laud his accomplishments but a fan should be judicious and not get on a band wagon? Is that your position. What the hell is a fan all about. I'm not a hater and I still think Dak has got it I could care less what the pundits and haters are saying.

I know some of you have probably already seen the rookie season analysis from Samuel Gold, see below if not.

He notes a few inadequacies that Dak displayed his rookie season, but these were ignored due to our win streak.

However, Dak has been asked to shoulder more of the load this season. These inadequacies have been amplified this season because he’s had less help.

Some issues are fixable, like his mechanics and timing.

The most disturbing issues mentioned in the video above; tunnel vision, player anticipation, and reaction/recognition speed.

Now I’m no expert, but anticipation and reaction speed in particular seem like instinctual God given traits. You either have them or you don’t. Maybe I’m completely wrong, but what is your logical unemotional take on Prescott?

The WRs have failed when he makes anticipation throws. Remember that ball to the right flat that bounced off TWill for an INT? That was an example.

Last offseason threads:

Dak better than Brady/Rodgers? (Actual threads)

This offseason:

It's only his 2nd year but but but Romo...

It'll take time but the Dak stans will someday admit he isn't good. For his sake I hope he keeps doing commercials and saving $$ because he is directly on the RG3 career arc.

I think it has to do with a lack of tape on him last year, this year the DC's have plenty of tape. Lot's of QB's look awesome when they first start because of this, see RG3, Kap, look at 49ers game other night. How many times have we been gashed by some no name QB? Plus he had Romo in his ear last year.

Here's the final evaluation of Garrett, Linehan, Marrinelli, and Dak...

They have been weighed, they have been measured, and they have all been found lacking!
Now off with their heads...all of them!

I see a lot of issues are Dak refusing or is unable to drive on the ball. That's why he's been widely inaccurate. Part of it is the fact that the line isn't nearly as good as it was last year. Yes la'el has improved, but he isn't that great of a tackle either. A lot of pressure is coming from the la'el/Zach side of the line.

We might need to add 2 more ot's. Insurance for Tyron and a replacement for La'el and then move la'el back to guard.

Many of the play calls for Dak do him no favors.

We don’t utilize much motion before the snap to see what the defense is doing. We go big frequently and bunch everyone in the middle of the field making it harder for a young QB to see what is going on past one route.

We don’t run screens or misdirection. The eagles had Wentz struggle against us and they ran a beautiful misdirection play for 50 years to get him going. We don’t have any of that.

The Rams get up to the line early so that McVay can help Goff with the calls. The eagles and Wentz run a ton of screens.

We don’t do anything at all to make the game easier for our young QB. We really don’t. Romo didn’t need that because the man was a wizard back there and probably one of the five smartest minds in the league (remember it took him a while to get there).

I’m also not concerned with regression regarding Dak. Mariota, Winston, Carr all were bad this year. Russell Wilson had a terrible stretch last year. All QBs go through a time period where it is very difficult for them unless your name is Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.

Dak has a Master's degree,
but this year he seems dumb
on field .
He looks at first read too long,
He has to see a guy open, rather
than throw to open spot they can run to.
He often has run lane's open up,
But he ignores those to try and
complete a pass.
On the pick 6,he had witten wide open in middle but never looked there.
He also had run lane, but chose to throw over a dl to Zeke.
He makes slot of bad decisions.

This all says he hasn't been coached very good.

Add to that bad play calling and design, and some lame wr's,
and no dominate run game,
and it resulted in 7-8 loss season.
And I forgot lame game plans,
poor or no adj in games,
and in general lame, lackluster coaching.
And don't forget the 2 stooges,
Jerry and his boy,who force
Certain players onto the field rather than let jg decide.
Jaylon early on, then dez all
Year .
And I think bailey was forced
Back too soon.

From 2011 to 2013, Romo was sacked 35+ times each year. This year, Dak has been sacked 31 times.

During that span, Romo threw for 4,000 yds 31TD to 13 INT average...

I guess you have a bad memory.

For a 2nd year qb? Not only that it was known Tony wasn't throwing away the ball. A lot of those sacks was self inflected.

The one thing that bothers me is the mechanics. This has been a known issue since college, and he actually regressed in that aspect this year. He can be given a break for reading and anticipating a little slow due to getting up to the speed of the game because that is the hardest part of the position as a QB. After three years, you typically know what you have, and I think Romo was ready by year three by Parcells own hints about the QB that no one is talking about, but Parcells is notoriously conservative. Romo is a gifted athlete. He's not only great at football, he's really good at basketball and golf. He's a rare breed so I disliked the over abundance of criticism he received.

Romo was already a starter in the league for 4 years when that started to happen. He’s the one who begged Jerry for an offensive lineman. Dak hasn’t been the same guy since the atlanta game. When he got destroyed because our fearless leader couldn’t adjust to Adrian Clayborn lol. He was shell shocked. Not to mention I’ve seen him take some cam Newton like hits to the head this season with no calls. That can’t be good on his psyche either
