I saw improvement from him as the season went along, and he looked to be a capable contributor by the end. If not for more of the non-called holds we've gotten all year, I saw at least another sack or two out there.

I was the furthest thing from a "Taco fan" when he was drafted, but I liked how he progressed, improved, and never quit.

Admitedly, I didnt watch in much detail the last 5 games. And I certainly wasnt focused on Soft Taco. Ill give him a clean slate come training camp, but talk of him being the next great DE in Dallas is on hold for me. When he starts wreaking havoc Ill be the first to applaud him. But from what I DID see this year, I dont have my hopes up. Soft is what I saw. But he has a golden opportunity with a beast like Tank taking most of the double teams.

And like the rest, you hid in the grey.

You never gave the actual numbers to move Smith. Either because you didn't know or because you were afraid to, you decide which.

And you also casually mention "4 or 5 players" at $5 million ( then changed to 3), but never give any examples for that either.

It was a poor attempt at a plan and one obviously not fully thought through. Accept it and move on rather than fighting with anyone and everyone who points it out to you.

And more grey. What "pick" are you getting for a guy that everyone knows is being moved due to injury?

While letting go of the best player from that same defense? Do you see your own contradictions here?

And everyone is disagreeing with you.

Again, I don't dispute the fact that there are risks. There certainly are. But there are even bigger risks - and almost guaranteed failure - letting the pass rusher that you've so long coveted simply walk out the door for a 3rd round pick in 2019.

It sounds like the "grey" is you not listening?

I've answered all of your questions already, seems like you just didn't read it.

You probably aren’t getting as valuable pick for Smith that you think. If Dallas shops him, as has been pointed out, teams will immediately think damaged goods.

When was the last time a top level LT was traded from a team that wasn’t awful and just trying to dump big contracts?

He doesn't have a big contract that is the point.

I think a lot of teams would take the chance on him. The questions, as I agreed to earlier, is how much you could get for him.

Yeah, I think you missed out on seeing his improvement. I very much liked what I saw. He was disruptive out there and wasn't getting tossed around like he was earlier in the year.

The kid doesn't quit and I think that attribute will serve him well. And another year in an NFL training program as well as being taught by Marinelli and Lawrence should do wonders for him. I'm cautiously optimistic.

And what? Now you want to put "qualifiers" on your misguided statement? Okay...

Yet something else you didn't think through.

Pretty sure we were talking about defensive ends... didn't realize that was a qualifier...

Answer how taking an $18 million cap hit for Tyron Smith is somehow "the right decision".

We'll go from there.

Zack is healthy and our best lineman. I wouldn't trade him nor do I think you'd get the value out of a guard that he is worth.

I don't see many players tagged and traded. That could be an option though.
Ok. I understand. You don't think Lawrence can stay healthy and you would not get a big contract on him. Let's look at his career here. He broke his foot in training camp his rookie year but came back later in the year to play well in the playoffs. He had 8 sacks his second year and played the whole year. His third year he was injured (back). This year everything came together and he had an All-Pro season. He plays one of the four most important positions on the field and he was are best defensive player. We cannot let him get away for nothing. You must be worried he will get injured every year like JJ Watt. You can't think like that. Players get injured.

Not the "1st or 2nd" that you mistakenly think. Certainly not for a player being shopped due to well known injury.

Oh but you'll get a nice $18 million dead cap hit. That's something.

Again, didn't think it through.

The point that you're missing is if you put almost 20 million into one player and they miss any number of games, it can impact whether you even make the playoffs. Instead you spread that risk over a few more players, and even if a player has a down year or gets injured, your season isn't bust.

No, you're just squirming, and trying to get off the hook for looking stupid and not thinking things through. And now you want to try to change conditions.

Fail.

Please quote me where I said no defensive player at all is worth it.

We were talking about defensive ends and we have since the get go.

Wait we should keep him, but no other team would take him?

You're crazy.

Please quote me and what I said regarding this if you think I didn't think it through.

You literally just didn't read it.

It’s big enough.

And yes that’s the point..... his value. I suspect you overvalue him because teams are going to be immediately skeptical of why the Cowboys, a team Jones is claiming is a contender, would trade a top flight LT with no real backup plan there.

Let me help you

Trade Tyron Smith, his cap hit gets MUCH smaller as it goes, so hopefully, we could still get some really good value here. Major cap hit for moving him now. Hopefully for a 1st or 2nd.
