2018 Ideal Secondary

You forgot about Byron Jones, Frazier, and Anthony Brown. They are jags but know are system and have made plays in the past.
Too young! You need a mix bro. You don’t win championships with a bunch of rookie and second year players in the secondary. Check the last 20 super bowl winners. Closest thing was the colts in 2006 and Peyton Manning isn’t walking thru that door

Give me the safety or corner you would bring in. We had veterans in 2016. They couldn't cover Green Bays receivers. For that matter they couldn't cover the Commanders receivers either.

Because it's heavily rumored up here in the PNW that they won't keep him for his last year with the 12 million hit .

It is not heavily rumored in the PNW at all.

Thomas has incredible value. They aren't moving on and getting nothing.

Safety

Sign Earl Thomas - a proven veteran (6x pro bowler) that will help the young secondary take the next step to be elite. He wants to be here, he’s from Texas, & he would be the best Safety in Dallas since Woodson hands down. Use the cap savings from cutting Scandrick towards Thomas’s contract. Get it done.

Jeff Heath- the signing of Thomas will allow Heath to excel again as a rotational player and Special teams ace. He may not be uber talented, yet he always seems to be in the middle of big plays. Not to mention, he’s the back up kicker..lol. He’s our modern day Bill Bates.

Xavier Woods- the Boys will move Woods were they originally wanted him at SS. He proved this year he could cover like a CB, yet was a physical tackler like you’d expect for a Safety. The off-season program should only ‘Strengthen’ his chances to succeed.

Kavon Frazier- rotate in on obvious run plays. He’s a downhill ‘box’ Safety that likes to drop the hammer on opponents. Every secondary needs a guy like this.

Corner

Bryon Jones- move Jones to CB during his last season, as I don’t believe Dallas will resign him after 2018 at this point. But he’s still valuable covering bigger WR/ TEs and dosent cost much.

Orlando Scandrick- Cut. The older he gets, the more injured he seems to be. I respect what he’s done for the team, but he’s not elite. It’s time to move on to the young guys and I think he knows it.

Draft pick- this draft class is said to be loaded with CB, much like last year. Maybe we can steal another CB in the 3rd or 4th round like we did with Lewis. You can never have enough CBs

Chidobe Awuzie- stud in the making and should only get better after the offseason. He’s established himself as a starter his rookie season. We can only hope that he learns to make his reads and more plays on the ball.

Jordan Lewis- was an absolute steal in the 3rd round. Like Awuzie, he’s established himself as a starter and looks even more polished at CB than Awuzie. Teams were already rarely throwing his direction. That’s a very good sign.

Anthony Brown- started off in the Sophomore slump this year, but rebounded nicely. Like the rest of this young secondary, he’ll get better the more he plays. At the very least, if he ends up being our 3rd or 4th option at CB.. that’s not a bad problem.

Possible 6th Cb- let Duke Thomas, Marquez White, and/or any surprise undrafted player fight it out for the last spot.

The versatility in Jones, Woods, and Awuzie will allow the secondary to disguise coverages and create turnovers. The above scenario would be ‘best case’ in my opinion.

LOL........any secondary with Jeff Heath in it is NOT ideal. Did you even bother watching the scrub play this year?

Morgan Burnett. Not the dreaded (30), a super bowl champion and defensive leader. Maybe that’s too much for Dallas to want out of a player though.

I love Jeff Heath!!!

Buuuuuuuuttttt, he's not a starter. Jeff is simply Keith Davis incarnated. I do love him on ST's, and he's a great backup, just not starting material. Too stiff for that. He does play w/ vigor, and knows what to do, he's just not physically talented enough to do it!!

I hesitate to use the word Great and Heath in same sentence. But yah a special teams player ONLY he is good. I dont want him on field EVER as a safety, but backups are backups for a reason. That is where he belongs. ON the bench.

He's also effective when we flood the field w/ DB's. Maybe some nickel.

But, yeah, if he's your starter, you've done a poor job. He'll always hurt you in coverage.

Dallas can trade for Thomas and his 8.5m cap hit.......probably takes a 3rd

That is a lot to give up....................if he is a salary cut then I'm all in

How much you willing to pay him. He is good but is Stephen going to pay.

How about restructured into a modest 3-year deal.......not sure I'd give 3rd though

Getting 3 years would make it worth a 3rd imo...... you only get 4 years from a draft pick

Thomas is only 28 and has 25 career INTs....... that is unheard of in these parts

Man, Thomas would thrust this D into another realm!!!! We've been missing a FS since Sensy left, and he wasn't all that good. Thomas is freaky good. I'd pay him, even knowing that he could have injury issues.

Earl Thomas just might be the best single high safety in the business. And he is still young enough to be productive for several years. No question he would be a huge upgrade.

The only question is whether Jerry/Stephen will pay. I don't think so, but I hope I'm wrong.

Well, I guess I missed that. Not sure why I thought he was a free agent. Oh well, there goes that idea... it still would be awesome. I just think, considering how young our secondary is.. we need a proven veteran roaming centerfield. There’s still other Proven veterans that actually may come at a better price like Ricardo Allen, Lamarcus Joyner, and Morgan Burnett.
Thomas could be a cap casualty, especially after he said he wants to play for Dallas
