I think the point the poster was making to you was that accumulating wins against scrub teams in the regular season and then either missing the playoffs (72% of the time under Garrett) or making the playoffs and losing (Garrett 1-2 in playoffs) is nothing to celebrate after 8 years. In fact, virtually no other NFL teams would tolerate this level of ineptitude. How do I know? Because they were all fired.

Marvin Lewis and Jason Garrett are the only two head coaches that have been with their teams 7 or more seasons without a SB appearance.

The Garrett supporters have been getting very chippy lately with name calling and insults..........I guess watching Philly advance to the NFC Title game with a backup QB and a 2nd year head coach has their panties in a bunch. Or, it could be that Jacksonville has shown what is possible with a football guy running the show, Tom Couglin, and an owner, who does not accept mediocrity.
Check the similarities of the Dallas and Jacksonville records, for the last several years, and ask yourself what Jacksonville has done differently then Dallas?

News flash, NFL teams are all marginally close in talent. Games come down to the end constantly. Games come down to a play here and there all the time.

Garrett has been a complete failure. 2 measly playoff appearances in a league of parity. The Jaguars have doubled up his playoff wins his entire time here in 2 weeks.

Pederson in 2 years and Marrone in 1 year have did with their teams what Garrett has not been able to do in 8 years. And one did it with Blake Bortles. Imagine Garrett with Bortles. Oh thats right. We saw that in 2015...

Mike Zimmer as well. Has his team in a conference championship. With their 3rd string QB essentially. Took Bradford and Teddy B to go down for them to rely on him. He's a new coach now. I'm sure they aren't using the phrase "process" and some of our fans actually being programmed to think there is such a thing as a process. It's a word to mask how inept you are at results.

This process is so long, we are about to start replacing guys who were brought in for the original process.

This franchise is the most unluckiest franchise in the NFL(besides maybe the Lions). Jerry must’ve sold his soul.

Yes we are even more unlucky than the Browns.

The Browns have had one winning season in the last 15 years and it was the year we had their first round pick. That’s sad.

At the end of the day, you always want a genius at coach and a master technician at QB but does that always matter?

I firmly believe a lot of luck comes into play.

Mike Zimmer was staring a 0-2 playoff record in the face after watching his team collapse in the second half at home. He didn’t coach the Saints defender to whiff on a tackle. Instead, Zimmer is now a genius and Case Keenum is a hero by pure luck. Sometimes the better QB and coach are helpless while the ball just bounces the other way.

You can find lots of instances in the NFL where luck and a hot streak wins out over talent or strategy. Look at the Ravens a few years back, the Harbaugh/Flacco connection got on a hot streak at the right time and had a little luck go their way. I don’t think Harbaugh is an amazing coach and Flacco is trash. If they were any good, they would be a little bit more competitive regularly in a weak AFC. They got lucky.

Even the great Brady/Belichick connection can credit at least a couple of their rings to a little luck..not a dominating strategy or overwhelming talent.

Despite his failures as a head coach, Garrett very easily could have had at least two NFCCG appearances if a little luck went our way. I’m not saying I want him as our long term answer at head coach, I’m just stating facts. If Dez “caught it” or if Cook didn’t get the last foot in bounds, our entire analysis of him would be different. If we had a little more luck with Romo, he’s a hall of famer.

I want one of these crazy wins that we can overexaggerate and remember..instead we just get a lot to bad luck and disappointment.

That happened because Romo got hurt (again) and the league had no film to study on his replacement, hence the good rookie season. The rookies had great rookie seasons and made Garrett look better than he is. And Garrett is the one who gets rewarded for basically doing nothing.

The OP is right, its luck and execution and coaching. All three have a role.

And "Garrett's complete failure" is a team that is in the top third in wins in the NFL during that time. And that includes 2015 when Romo was hurt. To the OP's point, a little more luck in 2015 and that record would be even better.

LOL. Is that really something to be proud of and something that mitigates the fact we have been largely an afterthought as a playoff team for the better part of 20 years? And that the biggest reason we fail is Jerry has done a horrible job hiring head coaches?
