It was a hallmark of his career....he LOVED makin music...original or covers.

There's so many good covers it's almost endless.

There are a lot of good covers, but there aren't nearly as many that improve upon the original......like All Along the Watchtower, by Jimi Hendrix. It was so good, Bob Dylan changed the way he sang it in concert.

There's also songs out there that are partial covers. When a band plays their own song and half way through starts signing a cover and comes back to their own song like U2's bad.

I'm not a U2 fan, so I'm not familiar with that, but I know what you mean. It's more like an homage than a cover. I find that to be a very respectful way to express appreciation for another artist.
