Dez at the Xroads

Here we go, we are going to get rid of one of our dynamic offensive weapons because our QB is incapable of using him. Only to replace with another receiver.
Unfortunately Jerry is married to JG and Linehan so most likely we will first turn on the WR's, then eventually we will turn on the QB after the WR have been cast aside.
Meanwhile real coaches like Philly has can get Nick Foles to look awesome while throwing to players who miraculously are never covered?
75% of the league has guys talented enough to win if the coaches are smart enough to put them in a position to succeed. The early 1990's are over. The days up just lining up and beating the opponent are long gone.

If I could bring in a top end free agent WR, I'd cut ties with Dez. I'd give his cap dollars to someone who can create separation and won't be a distraction. It's not even a hard decision. His cap hit is about 4 times his production and worth. So get a top tier guy in FA and give him Dez's money and then draft a speed WR and that position should be fine.
Who? Its easy to say but who are you signing? Top tier free agent WR's don't typically exist. I don't think the Patriots paid NO a 1st and a 3rd for Cooks because they are generous.

TWill has a way higher catch rate that Dez. Like, it's not even close. 68% (which is very good compared to the rest of the league, btw) vs. 52%.

Last season was basically the same, 72% for Twill vs 52% for Dez.

Williams is not great, but it's not because he drops a lot of balls.

I don't need stats on Twill, I have eyes and he can't catch the ball. He's not awful, he just not a 2nd. He's a nice 4th IMO.

I mean, catch rate is just a fact, it's not open to debate.

The fact is he can't catch with his hands so any ball placed near them, such as an over the shoulder reach out is going to be most likely dropped.

Yes he can, he did plenty of times, so "can't" is just not correct. The majority are body catches, but who cares? A catch is a catch. He's had some big plays in games. A solid no. 2 WR.

Well this is discouraging.
So we need 2 new starting WR's and a new starting TE?
Yikes.

Pretty much. But we can't afford to just put in a rookie at the X and expect them to take off. Last year 32 WR's were drafted and only 2 were over 500 yds receiving. That's the dilemma.....how to we get better between the draft and FA? Change the scheme is the only way I see how for next year anyway.

First, there are a few very nice WRs scheduled for free agency this year. Second, please reread the first three words I typed.

Dude he is not a number 2!

Here's an example. Does he scare anyone across from him ever?
Now let's look at some 2's, Sanu, Crabtree, Torrey Smith, on and on.....those guys scare you.

Look he's not a bad player at all, he's just not a #2 IMO.

I think they are more upset that his tirades usually involve him complaining about how the coaches are calling the game and then him complaining about the offense late in the year.

I'm on team Dez.. He needs to give up some money but I back Dez all the way on this because this is all about the Jones's protecting Garretts philosophies IMO.

We've heard both Jones's just recently talk about those 90's Cowboys and how nobody could stop them even though they knew what was coming. They actually buy into this in 2017.

They buy into the Tampa 2 defense. They buy into all these ways that were successful 20 years ago.

A guy like Dez watches Antonio Brown and Julio Jones and says to himself that he can do a lot of what they do if he were used as dynamically as they are and I think he's had enough.

This is mostly speculation and reading between the lines from my end of course.

Like who?
I reread your first few words but it didn't really change anything.
I get it you said "if"....That's why I asked who? I'm not disagreeing with you I am just asking who would be an upgrade that is going to be a Free Agent?

Twill just flat out sucks and is average. Great blocker though. Guy can't catch the ball.
Beas was double teamed and teams studied us and knew Dak loved him.
And Witt has just gotten old.
sucks and average would seem to contradict. :) but i do get the point. he only seems to show up one or 2 games a year and even then just 1 or 2 plays.

Dez needs to go...he is a punk on the field...all he does is bs with the other teams dbs and not help his team win...he will make the circus catch once in awhile. drop easy passes, have them bounce off his hands or face and be returned for td's...he sucks...he is a cancer..

Well, Allen Robinson, Jarvis Landry, Sammy Watkins, and Mike Wallace are all scheduled to be free agents. Who knows who else will become available or who you may be able to trade for. That's why I said "If I could". It's not hard to be an upgrade from a WR who can't separate, runs poor routes, drops passes, and blows up on the sidelines during games. I'm not saying it's all Dez's fault. I think in a better scheme with coaches capable of adapting their play design to their player's strengths, Dez could still be elite. I simply don't see any of that happening in Dallas any time soon.

Dez is just not too bright. He got star struck by Sanders and went against his coaches and fellow players' advice and then gets signed by a rapper and plays the "I ain't showing up" card.

He has balked at advice from much smarter people at OSU and once he got paid, he was all in on Dez. He has always been about himself and the Dezzies mistaking a lack of self control for passion.

I agree, I think the comments from Stephen Jones were really about this. They want Dez to work hard in the offseason and be a better team. He isn't going to be coddled like he was in the past because he isn't the best player on offense anymore and the team doesn't revolve around him like it did in the past.

I agree here 100% ..........In fact, Stephen knew exactly what he was saying and doing. IMO he was speaking directly to Dez. I think he gets another year but Stephen's interview kinda serves as a warning ........put up, show leadership or else.

Look he's not a bad player at all, he's just not a #2 IMO.

He also can't be compared to Dez because he never gets double teamed. The only time he did was in 2015 when Dez was hurt and he completely disappeared.

IF Dez gets let go he's gonna go to a team and produce and people will say how did dallas let him go? he's not bad but he just doesnt fit here it seems. he'll probably be a number 1 or 1a receiver where they will use him more to his strengths. not sure the current Dez can be number one in dallas.QB play and offensive scheming not working.

No, it would simply be a glaring indictment of this coaching staffs inability to get the most out of its players and their inability to adjust to player's abilities and strengths.
