What are the changes you expect to see in the offensive scheme?

Stephen and Jerry have both alluded to making the offense Dak-friendly. Realistically what do you think this looks like?

Is it starting from scratch and building a whole new playbook.

Adding a package of 20-25 RPO’s like the Eagles do for their QBs?

Incorporating more option like Seattle? (This is unlikely to me because Jerry has talked a lot about risk of QB running)

I'm hopeful that things will improve. I would love a more varied and dynamic playbook but I doubt it will happen. I think our biggest weakness is that the offense is predictable. The biggest things that can be done to make the offense Dark friendly is prevent offensive line conniptions like the Atlanta game and get receivers that are quicker on the draw (looking at you Witten).

Garrett + Linehan = zero changes

Jones can talk all he wants about offensive changes and a Dak-friendly system. The HC and OC are incapable of making that happen. What the heck have they been doing since the end of the 2016 season to help the offense and Dak improve in 2017? They did nothing but dust off the cover of the same tired playbook and hope for a better result. "Hope" is not a plan! Pardon my angst....

Truthfully as long as Garrett and Linehan are here, I don't expect to see big changes in scheme or play calling.
I don't believe Garrett is into change.
Hopefully our new WR's coach will bring an improvement in route running which would help Dak, and hopefully they do more than just hope Tyron Smith stays healthy! We need to draft a quality LT rather than depending on the likes of swinging door Chaz Green to sub for an ailing T. Smith.
Tyron Smith is a great LT but I suspect his back problems are going to prove chronic. I doubt that we can depend on him for 16 games a year anymore, and we just saw what happened to our offense without a dependable LT.

Don't Give Up On The Run especially when it's working. Don't overthink it when you're inside the 5. RPO's are ok but Dak has to last the season. Bring back to shovel pass. More Beasley and Switzer, "if it's all about matchups" let's see how they match up to the quickness because we're short on speed, and stop being so damn predictable. 11 pro bowlers across the board will find it tough sledding if the opposition knows their every move.

Changing the personnel is critical to allow a more dynamic playbook. Right now Dez has a limited tree and often doesn't even pull double coverage. Witten is too slow to run a lot of routes. Cole isn't gifted at longer routes. All this combines to handcuff the coordinator.

Get a fresh tight end and lead WR and the playbook can look much different.

Keeping him in shotgun and running from it would be the easiest thing but he needs to get used to reading the D while dropping back so it's not ideal. Getting giant receivers is the other option as they allow a higher degree of inaccuracy.

Everyone thinks the patriots are geniuses for using a team of Cole Beasleys but don't get that's only possible because Brady is fitting the ball a smaller window than other QBs are typically capable of.

When I think of Dak friendly, I think of spread offense. Four to five wide giving him the quick and long option with a clear one on one and several mismatches. Sadly we are not built that way. We are built for smash mouth football. The OL and RB are built to run you over and eat up time clock and a defense's will. Sad part is defenses know this and go 8 and sometimes 9 in the box to stop the run..... Without Dak proving he can throw the long ball, or our receivers proving they can catch more than a cold, we are stuck with defenses dialing up the run and making sure Dak can't run the ball.... After a year of tape on him, he has proven they are right..... Here's to hoping he can adjust. Lord knows the coaches have yet to.....

The tidbit came out today that Linehan is envisioning changes for Dak next season and that Dak was pretty excited about the new stuff.

I can’t speculate what that might mean, but it’s interesting to try to guess. Maybe there was something to the hints that there was some friction between Linehan and Dooley and Pollack last season.

Dak friendly? Unless the QB improves his accuracy and consistency down the field, there will be little improvement. Defenses will stack up to stop Zeke and blitz Dak in long passing downs, whom hasn't shown the ability to adjust at the line scrimmage.

I was thinking the opposite.
I thought they may be looking to finally (after talking about it multiple times throughout the years) run more two TE sets.
Pound the football and utilize the play-action more.

Too much fear, not enough risk.

"Can't have Dak run, he might get hurt (Russell Wilson does it)."

"Can't have Dez return kicks, he might get hurt (Antonio Brown does it)."

If you're afraid to maximize the weapons at your disposal, get "comfortable" with being an average football team.

For me it's pretty dang simple....

1. On 1st and goal at the 3....RUN THE BALL.

2. Stop forcing the ball to Dez.

Linehan will make some subtle changes here and there. But get a decent swing OT, avoid another stupid suspension to Zeke and have better situational play calling and the offense will be fine IMO.

We'd best do whatever it takes to improve the OL's pass protection, whether it means replacing Cooper at LG or moving La'el back there.

An elite RT draftee should be considered. Dak isn't nearly as likely to reach his full potential as a passer without better pass protection.

I think how the Chiefs use Alex Smith is a good starting point. They use him as a run threat but don't get him beat up too much. The Titans were mostly boring, but they did have some nice play designs where Mariota runs to the edges had blocking set up so he could pick up cheap yards without the defense getting near him.

And of course look at the short to intermediate passing concepts the Patriots use. You're not going to turn Dak into Brady, but you also see the Patriots just spring guys wide open sometimes who are absolutely NOT elite NFL athletes.

The goal isn't to just blindly copy what X team does and dump everybody that doesn't fit that, but to take the parts that fit the roster you're able to assemble.

There is more than a little truth to this, too. No matter what you think of Dak, it's also true that the Cowboys receiving weapons are just kind of bad now.
