I'm sitting home and brought up the SB XXVII we won against Buffalo first time around.

Jay Novachek just killed them.

Able to get downfield..

able to shake off LBers and safeties.

Witten no longer does this.

Its been said this is his last year and the team is going to pay his $8 mil as a goodbye gesture.

This makes little sense to me.

We desperately need production at TE going forward for the offense.

The backups are strictly blocking TEs.

A true pass catching TE is on the menu.

Does this draft have such a player and when would we take one?

I know some think Rico Gaithers is the answer but I don't see him being able to stay healthy.

He's an experiment that has failed.

The chances of drafting a good WR at #1 seems remote.

But TE at #2?

What say you.

Who?

Who’s progress is he stopping?

The only way I see him not starting is by getting demoted via high draft pick.
Good question. We don't even get to see another TE on the field, going out on routes except for maybe 2 snaps a game, except for Witten.
That's how far the progress stops.

Hanna himself came into the league as a receiving TE and what does he do?

Witten is a busta
Yes he is.

I have loved his play early in his career.

But I can' t deal with his liabilities.

Giving him his money out of senitentality is crazy when we are supposed to be making a SB run.

We constantly want to compare ourselves to the Pats.

They trade or release players before they decline.

We hold on to players.

Jerrah thinks this is the right thing to do.

Nuts.

His $8 mil would help find defensive help we need and I doubt any falloff in play with Swaim instead or somebody else.

We have 3 Pro Bowl OL and an All Pro RB.

If they can' t get the job done without Witten..

we are doomed anyway.

He's leaving.

Witten has helped slow down this offense for almost a decade now.

Other teams were utilizing dynamic tight ends and we were stuck with this guy who is as slow as molasses, yet he remains one of the highest paid tight ends in the league...

Witten was 12 in the league in receiving yards last year among tight ends.

10th in touchdowns.

It should be noted that not all teams utilize their tight ends in the passing game.

His sub 10 yards per reception is unbelievably pedestrian... In reality, every reception and target of Witten is a net negative.

No sense pretending witten's the man any longer. He can still play, but not at the highest levels. In the nfl east, ertz, evinger, and Jordan reed are all better. We need a definite upgrade at the position.

He still gets open though.

His 7 yard routes are now 2 yards but who’s is replacement.

I want them to draft someone

THIS.

YEAR.

More speed at TE is just as necessary as more speed at WR going forward

To expand: How many times have we complained about a TE in the 2nd round? We still complain. Why? Witten.

Look at his first down percentage among top tight ends... He has half the percentage of Gronkowski...

Teams allow him to catch balls because they know he isn't going to do serious damage anymore. It's very easy to contain him.

I agree on all of your points except for Rico Gathers. It's too soon to give up on him given the progress he was making before that concussion.
Rico would be great but he still has not made his mark.

We have made several attempts as we know to find Witten's replacement.

Now is the time.
