We can't afford to be impatient with high potential pass rusher. I'm sorry we just don't have that luxury when you consider the fact that we don't sign any high price free agency dline men. If your goin to play the grow and develop game then you have no choice but to be patient or keep recycling picks at the same position.

Hate it or love it but you going deal with it. I bet that.
W3 can't afford to carry a guy on the roster at DE that contributes crap all....

This is why you have inactive every week. Out of a 53 man roster, someone is always most lily to have something to keep them out of a game or longer. If your 53rd guy is better or has better potential even when injured, than your 54th guys that would still be inactive any way if he were kept on the team. then what is the difference? Especially if that 53rd player when healthy can be one of your top 30 players.

It blows my mind how quickly posters here will quit on a player.

Tapper has elite athletic traits, very good size, great arm length, and plays a premium position. There is not a lot of guys with Tapper's physical tools.
Tapper was a very good draft pick. He should be healthy and easily ready to go this summer. No reason to think about giving up on him yet. Nothing but upside.

This has got to be a make or break upcoming season for Charles Tapper. I actually forget sometimes he’s even on our team. I was high on him coming out of OU and stoked to grab him in the 4th round. That said, be it due to injuries or otherwise, he’s yet to push for any significant playing time.

What’s the over/under on him breaking through this season and justifying a spot on the roster?

Shouldn't we get another year (or two) of contract out of him. He missed all of 2016, and most of 2017. Was he ever on the roster long enough to accumulate a league year?

Yeah, even though his playing time is limited he did get a sack and a couple of tackles the game he played. I'm more optimistic because I agree he was a good pick.

I liked the pick when we made it - there definitely seemed to be upside to it. But he has to be healthy enough to prove it. I agree 2018 is a make or break year.

He has pars defect, it most likely generic and can reaccur at any time. He was also trying to transsition from 5t to a rush end and has missed a lot of development. Depending on what they draft I'll be surprised if he's makes it out of training camp. Regardless, his long term chances in the league are not good!

Fourth rounders hit what, 20-25% of the time? If Tapper doesn't work out, that's not at all surprising.

Will be another interesting player to watch this year, if he has another significant injury he will be gone. If he can play this year, it's a good- not great, rotational piece added to the Dline. Just from the human aspect of it, I'm rooting for him this year.

I forget he's on the roster most of the time, too. Shame, because he had a lot of athletic potential and he showed some flashes early. This should be the part of his contract where we're really reaping the benefit of that player development. As it is, if he develops at all, it'll just be for a free agency run.

Same here. Loved the pick. If we draft another DL early or bring in a FA he may get lost in the rotation regardless of him being healthy.

I saw a Tweet saying he recently had a backotomy and that he's already feeling better.

Fingers crossed.

He played 36 snaps on defense in 2017 and had 1 sack.

Tapper 1 sack per 36 snaps.

DLaw 1 sack per 49 snaps....

I dont know about breaking through, but I think if he is healthy he can be a good 3rd or 4th DE. I thinkna healthy Tapper offers more than Mayowa would in a rotation due to a combination of size amd explosivness. He has the size and experience in a 2 gap scheme that tells me he should be able to hold up against the run in a 6 gap. He also explosion to threaten the edge playing in a 9 gap. The combination of the two makes him very useful. However I dont know that he has the bend to thrive in the 7 and 8 gaps. But I dont know that he doesnt either

A lot of potential wrapped in a brittle package. Unfortunately, I expect him to break once again.
