Inspired by @CouchCoach , I remembered a version of the Radio show Desert Island Discs that my friends and I used to play. If stranded on an island which 8 albums would you take, "greatest hits" albums are not allowed, but "Live" albums are.

I haven't thought about this in a while, but I would start my list with

RUSH - 2112
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of The Moon
The Clash - London Calling
Robert Earl Keen - West Textures
Breedlove - Breedlove

I gotta think about the last few, but may change the ones I've chosen......lol

Which 8 do you take?

Ok so i will be picking mine based on what i think is great music and what i would want to be listening to while living on this island.

So many moods and emotions will be changing while living on this Island i would need a little something of everything.

Live albums
The Rolling Stones - Brussels Affair
Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison
U2 - Rattle and Hum, or 1990 live on New Years Eve from Dublin.

Rap album
Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill, or Wu Tang Clans - 36 chambers.

Something with a female vocalist.
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

Something with survival tones that i could also dance to.
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA

Something with a little zing to it.
INXS - Kick

Something for the night sky.
Pink Floyd - The Wall

This would be my frame work and would edit from this point on if needed.

Slayer - either Reign, South or Seasons...probably Seasons in the Abyss
Metallica - And Justice...
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry
Anthrax - Worship Music
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
Judas Priest - Any one of the first 10 albums
Pink Floyd - The Wall or Wish You Were Here
AC/DC - Powerage or 74 Jailbreak
Kiss - Double Platinum

Edit:
Oops, I put 10.

BP mentioned Bob Marley in different thread. I would probably edit that into my list somewhere. What's Bob Marley's best album? no greatest hits albums allowed.

Nice variety, picking your fav 8, is different from picking 8 to live with.

Rush.....Permanent Waves
Rush.....Hemispheres
Van Halen......VH1
Beatles...........Abbey Road
Zeppelin.........Physical Graffiti
Zeppelin.........Zep4
Pink Floyd......DSOTM
Alice Cooper.....Schools Out.

Catch A Fire or Natty Dread.

My 8 would be:

Nas - Illmatic
Steve Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Michael Jackson - Thriller
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Nirvana - In Utero
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back

It was not stipulated as to how long I would be stranded on this island and which island? Does it have a Walmart where I can buy more? Wi-fi so Amazon can reach me? I don't think 8 is going to cut it, unless I am on Skull Island and in that case 8 may be too many and I might not need to consider full albums, 8 EP's might be too much. Hell, might not need full songs, radio edits might do.

If I am on the Island of Misfit Toys, need 8 really loud and obnoxious ones to keep those toys away although Raggedy Ann was pretty hot in a demure kind of way. But that Jack-in-the-Box? No way, I think he ended up at Charles Manson's house when he was 4.

Being limited to 8, I don't think I could choose 2 from the same band, but it's hard to decide which one, especially some of my favorite bands.

I think I'd change my RUSH-2112 to RUSH - Exit Stage Left

Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Slayer - South of Heaven
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
AC/DC - Back in Black
Kenny Wayne Sheppard - Ledbetter Heights
Kenny Wayne Sheppard - Trouble Is
Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowl
Joe Bonamassa - Driving Towards the Daylight

Yes, that is nine. SHUT UP!

If I had to kick one out, it might be Seasons in the Abyss.

Okay, if no Greatest Hits albums are allowed:
Pink Floyd - The Wall & Dark Side of the Moon
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Aerosmith - Aerosmith
Alan Jackson - Good Time
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Blues at Sunrise

Typical deserted tropical island, there's enough food and water on the island to sustain you. Too far away from any radio or wi-fi, but you don't have one anyway, your cell phone and other technology got lost during the storm before being shipwrecked and you're the lone survivor. You have your 8 CDs, a trusty vintage Sony Discman(no radio), headphones, a few rechargeable batteries and small solar powered charger.

You're marooned indefinitely until someone finds you or you figure a way off the island, but since you're not near shipping lanes or fly routes, it could be awhile.
No professor or Mary Ann either..........

9 is OK, but there is no guarantee that one of those didn't get broken or fall out of the case during the storm. Fate can be cruel that way.......

•Elvis Presley...his historic debut LP.
•Elvis...his historic follow-up album.
•Elvis Is Back...1st LP after his return from the army.
•Something For Everybody...his 2nd #1 LP of the 60's(GI Blues was the 1st).
•Pot Luck...the 3rd in the trilogy of studio albums...and the most underappreciated.
•From Elvis In Memphis...ground breaking LP recorded in '69 at American Studio in Memphis.
•Thats The Way It Is...a beautiful album...arguably his finest.Perfect balance of studio and Live material from his zenith in 1970.
•Elvis Country...a concept album from the heart of the king....a perfect record.

Eric, you wouldn't have to worry about being rescued. Playing all that Elvis music and the aliens would come for you.

So, I guess no Ginger either? Hell, I might get gamey enough for Mrs, Howell. By the 2nd month, might be willing to cross dress the skipper.

Alright, if I was smart enough to pack a solar powered charger, I was smart enough to pack speakers because no way am I going to put on headphones and worry about cannibals sneaking up on me. Besides, I am sure I will want to dance to some of my tunes and I want whatever animals I have as a partner to be able to hear the music do they can keep the beat.
