All this talk about cheap draft picks being more valuable than proven Superstars like Earl Thomas has got me thinking.

Zack Martin is due for a new contract. He's gonna get PAID. Let's ship him off now and TRY to get a 2nd round pick. Maybe we can steal a 1st rounder. Who knows.

What do you guys think?

That's nonsense.
Why in the world would you draft a guy in the 1st and then trade him for a 2nd 4 years later?
first of all, he's the best guard in football. Of course he's getting paid. You're 2 best players are on rookie deals. That helps you.

I’ll play along since I’m waiting for a tow truck. Zack is arguably the best RG in the league so at the very least you’d want a 1st AND maybe a 2nd or third, minimum. Teams might offer a 1st and a fifth but to me that’s not enough..

He’s still very young so he’s a Blue Chipper, no sale...

And just basing this off of the thread title, because I did not read the actual post, but this may be the dumbest idea ever posted on these forums. Now maybe...*maybe*...you're being sarcastic, and if so, well played sir. But if you are being serious, then this is arguable the dumbest proposal ever posted here and everyone who bothered to read this post, is less intelligent now as a result and may god have mercy on your soul.

I think you could get at least 1st and 3rd for Martin if not 1st and 2nd. He is not just starter but he is also an All-Pro since his rookie year.

I am certainly not supporting that you trade him without getting value. I don't know what you could get or if there is an applicable comparison. Would be a great question to ask Schefter or one of those guys.

Yes, it sounds crazy, but it isn't. You know LT's are getting paid. Centers are considered next most important. Those two are already extended. Everyone is always saying you can't pay all of the Oline top dollar and that is true. The only way to get out of the cycle is to stick to your guns that G's aren't top dollar positions which leaves you with the option to trade him or let him walk for nothing when contract is up. If you can get a first and a 4th or better, probably worth considering. Certainly, I think he should fetch more than that considering if there was a draft re-do he would have gone top 10 but that would probably be more a function of who the trade partner is.

One move allows you to reset the overall Oline $'s back within budget and pick up extra picks for young, cheap talent. WIN-WIN.

Actually in the NFL it is not uncommon to have two highly paid interior linemen. Either OG and OC or two OG and then an OT. Though interior guys do not make as much by themselves as a LT if you have two good ones as aggregate do. YOu really need two good interior guys with one being above avg

Firstly, Zack would be worth a new contract. How often do you come across a guard of his caliber? Secondly, a second round pick would be horrible compensation for a player of his caliber. If we DO trade him, he's worth at least 2 first rounders.

Exactly, and a strong offensive line is a GOOD thing.
