Dez: 16.5 million cap hit. 8.5 million savings if released.

Witten: 7 million cap hit. 7 million savings if released.

Honey Badger signed for 1 year 7 million.

Nelson signed for 2 years 15 million. 7.5 million average.

Cutting Dez and Witten (15.5 million in savings) and signing Nelson and Honey Badger would have left us with 1 million in savings and arguably an upgraded roster.

All of this is why a real GM is needed. Let the owner and his family go on vacation because the real GM makes the football decisions, while the owner just goes to the bank to check his balance every week and have the people in the bank catering to him.

Then we gotta worry about a TE too. Give me what we have and draft a young stud safety.

I'll take Dez and Witten. Badgers knees are shot, did you even see him play last year? He was garbage.

How about cutting Witten and signing Nelson? It would have only cost the cowboys 500 thousand extra in cap space.

Adding Jordy could have been an interesting experiment. I don’t mind missing out on him though, and definitely not wishing we cut guys to facilitate it.

really ? how do you KNOW FOR SURE Jordy will out produce dez? who replaces witten? and we are still at a higher cap number as we are the other 16mil in dead money.. I like the idea of HOneybadger but why was he released and why di he only get a one year offer? same with nelson, hes AR favorite target, yet he was released, why?

you fans are not GMS and for sure don't have insight into players that real FO and scouts have plus you cant tell the future either, just because witten and ez and dak and the whole offense failed last year, doesn't mean it will be the same this year.... somehow every single player released is supposed to be a Cowboy now..LMAO.. seriously i wish they make a few moves on some of these players but in no way do i think because we are not that we are doomed next year..take away just few injuries and have zeke here 12 plus games and we will be fine..

I think everyone on this board knows you cant sign every FA, but just do something other than a trip out of the USA, to show you want to improve your team. Just the draft along will not get it done.

Nelson as your #1 isn't a smart decision at all. But I think they could've brought in Mathieu and Poe and instantly upgraded their defense. As far as current signings go. But WR, TE, LB, swing tackle, guard, S, DT.. plenty of needs. But a 33 year old WR shouldn't be on that list to take over the top spot.

If nelson is soo good then why didnt his team keep him.

Fans tend to have tunnel vision thinking "if we had done this, player X would have come here" The problem with that logic is that player X may have never even had Dallas on his radar. There are 32 teams to choose from even if we have the cap space available it doesn't guarantee that player wants to come here. Earl Thomas gave us a legit reason to get excited because he told us to trade for him, Honey Badger did not.

i can tell you this, getting back healthy players and signing from within first, than draft, than not having the same rash of injuries and suspensions alone can improve us 2 games maybe more..we are trying to improve from 2nd place in our division and missed the playoffs by 2 games ..we aren't trying to make a 5-10 game turn around like other teams...ALL these moves others are making are no guarantee the teams get better..
