News: ESPN: Jason Garrett on Dak Prescott: He knows he has to get better

No way, I'm riveted to this bold new theory that coaching contributed to a disappointing 2017 season. Its the kind of fresh, outside the box thinking that we don't get enough of here.
Damn. 6 pages and counting.

ihave news flash for Jason garrett dak is not the only one that needs to get better and dak does need to get better but so do lots of other players and coaches

So if Rodgers has an absolute fluke injury and missed some, not even most, of next year, GB needs to move on? Andrew Luck is done and the Colts are fooling themselves because he is just damaged goods?

Rodgers, no. He had a collar bone break (2nd of his career).
Andrew Luck, depending on the injury, yes. He's injury prone.

Romo was injury prone and Rodgers is not a comparable QB in this situation. Rodgers has had 2 collar bone breaks compared to the following for Romo:

  • broken ribs on at least 3 separate occasions we are aware of, and bruised ribs another time. One of these included a punctured lung
  • cyst removal surgery
  • 3 broken collar bones
  • transverse fracture (spine)
  • compression fracture (spine)
  • herniated disc
The herniated disc was the severe injury. The injury that would forever impact Romo. That's something Rodgers never had. Luck has a severe injury too that has to be taken into consideration. If Rodgers keeps getting injured then GB will have to make the same choice.

Romo was getting hurt about every 5-7 hits at the end of his career. Even in 2014, he got thrown to the ground in the 3rd quarter against GB. He could barely get back up and struggled just to hand the ball off to Murray on the next 2 plays. Thankfully Murray scored a touchdown in those 2 plays, but Romo was hurt just from being thrown to the ground.

He came back out and finished the next 2 drives, but that doesn't mean much. He also came back into the Washington game with the transverse fracture and would have come back into the Seattle game with the compression fracture if it were a regular season game. This just proves he is "tough". But the dude was beat to hell his career and his body gave up on him.

Since this is a hot topic. After 2015 is it fair to say Dak Prescott saved Garrett's job in 2016? The thanks, I guess, as only Garrett can do, was to get Dak killed in Atlanta.

I love the Cowboys but seeing and listening to Jason Garrett brings the bile up.

What is funny about it? Parcells has said you just have to convince Jerry of what the right thing to do is. Are you suggesting Garrett was saying "Jerry we need Romo back" and Jerry was like "No, Garrett, you're going with Dak and that's it"? If so, what makes you believe that?

A rookie of the year, who had 1 and a half phenomenal seasons, and one bad half of a season?

Despite Daks stats, The Cowboy passing attack has stunk overall when measured against its peers the past 2 years. Garret said 22and and 27th. Thats got to improve.

No. I don’t believe Garrett’s job needed saving. Romo’s Injury was going to be enough to explain another disappointing season.

The Cowboys would have looked to the draft or FA to begin looking for the heir apparent if Dak hadnt come to the rescue as another poster correctly stated above.

I believe Jerry was influenced by the public wave of support of Dak and got caught up in the hoopla believing he could take us further than Romo.

In the end Jerry was better off losing with Dak than taking a chance winning with Romo.

I’m not sure how Garrett was swaying but I’d say it didn’t have as much influence as the publuc wave.

The bottom line is we can’t sure we have a HC who could make that final decision regardless what influence he might have had.

I’d add that if this was based on Jason’s influence I believe Romo would have been more vocal instead of ducking his tail and bowing out.

Clap, Clap, Clap, Everyday needs to be better than yesterday. Clap, Clap, Clap.
every year top to bottom thats all anyone ever says. "better better better better" with no real solution to getting better. complacent joke of an organization right now.

The worst thing that could have happened was for Romo to come in and us go one and done, which is a realistic possibility. Using hindsight, that may have been the best thing for the fans though. We wouldn't have Romo hanger-ons and Garrett would probably have been fired.

Garrett would say the same thing about any young player but especially a QB. As usual, there’s a plethora of negative takes.

Agree with first sentence which aligns with my thinking.

It would have defintely either brought closure with Romo or created quite a controversy which I believe Jerry didn’t want to undertake.

And unless it was Garrett’s decision to go with Romo doubt he would have been fired.

Well, you're being consistent so props for that. I vehemently disagree that they should have stayed with Dak in 2016 though. If you want to move on from Romo because of his injuries, that's fair, but while you have him under contract it was dumb not to use him and let Dak learn more from sitting, while giving the team the best advantage because you are playing the better player.
