Whats the plan at LB?

Extra duct tape for Sean Lee.

Think we go with a LB in round 1 and again in day 3.

Evans or LVE in round 1, depending on how the draft shapes up

I can see this John.

I can see us going Evans or Vander Esch in the first and then maybe a Jefferson or Nwosu or Jewell in the third.

Yeah, I could see it.

what the plan see what we do in the Draft, backup plan go get a FA left i assume Bowman might still be there..i suspect they are taking a LB high in the draft, Evans or Rsmith in the first or some one in the second or third..Malik Jefferson or that Vanden herch or whatever his name is ..

nice idea but IMO thats not what i want they either need Rsmith or Evans in first if those guys don't get to us they take a DT and wait until the 2nd and or third for LBs but i doubt they just go super heavy early with Lbs..i assume 3 wil be taken but One big name with potential to start day one than some depth or insurance later 4th maybe ...

I don't really want that either. I want Vea or an Edge rusher in the 1st and a WR and LB in the 2nd and 3rd, don't care which order.

heading into the draft I presume our starting LB's are

Lee ????? Jaylon Smith?

with Wilson, Thomas, and March-Lillard as reserves

I'm not sure where Wilson plays, I thought of Thomas as more of a special teamer along with Lillard.

maybe LVE or Evans is a huge need if either of them can start at the Mike day 1.

what say you?

If the team doesn't sign a FA, then the presumption is that the staff feels it could go with Lee, Wilson and Smith as the starters, since Wilson would play a two-down role and the team doesn't like to go into the draft with any absolute needs. Thomas has started so he may be considered as insurance in case some part of that lineup fails.

That doesn't mean the team isn't going to address the linebacker position in the draft, but it may not feel the same urgency that we do as fans. Wilson was a nine-game starter last year. Thomas started 1 game last year, but 7 the year before. Jaylon was a second-round pick taken for his potential coming back from injury.

It won't surprise me if we don't pick a linebacker until the third round or later depending on how the draft falls.

Bowman probably ends up back with Oakland and no real other option in FA so draft will produce at least one maybe two depending on how things fall. If we got Vander Esch in one and Evans in two somehow, I wouldn't complain.

Its all about drafting a LB or three. Plus we will scour the wire after the June 1 cuts.

Could even move Irving to DE. I think we could be tough to handle with a front line of DLaw, Collins, Vea and Irving.
That's not a bad idea, either. With Irving you have that flexibility. At that point do you
slide Lawrence over to the weakside?
Plus you'd have guys like Crawford and Taco that can line up in a few spots, as well.

I think you can actually flip them. I think both of those guys can probably play either DE spot. Matchup problems!

I just don't see Collins being what we need at 3-tech. Fans got excited about him his rookie season because he got five sacks, but several of them were schemed sacks (coming off stunts) instead of Collins beating his man. This doesn't mean he wasn't a good player at the 3-tech, but there's not a lot of evidence he can be a dominant player there, like Irving was in his eight games.

I don't mind him in a rotation, but I just don't think he's the lead dog there. In fact, if we did get Vea and move Irving, it wouldn't surprise me if Vea didn't turn out to be a better option at 3-tech than Collins. Vea has power and speed that would destroy one-on-one blocking.
