Tapper's played in two games in two seasons. It's hard to undervalue him.

He's had three tackles and a sack in those few appearances, so there's hope that if he can stay healthy, he can contribute.

Crawford has pretty much been undervalued since the team signed him for more than fans think he should have received. Pretty much happens any time Dallas gives out a big contract. If the player isn't a well-paid superstar, then he's considered a bum.

Crawford has been forced to play left end and right end out of necessity because he's been one of our four-best DL. He got paid because of what he showed at 3;tech, but pretty much hasn't been able to play the position since because of the team's needs. He's quick for an interior lineman, but slow for an end, so it's harder for him to put up the same kind of numbers he would on the inside, but he's more solid at end than other players we could have started there. He's ended up being the team's utility player because of that.

Crawford has been beaten out at 3T by Collins and Irving, that's why he plays out of position.

No I didn't say cut him... I agree to keep him... not like he costs anything. I am just saying, he has absolutely no value on the active roster so far... So any idea of him being somewhat under valued is out the window. That was all I meant... ;)

I think it's the reality if we don't pick up a quality 1-tech in the first or second round. It's not the perfect position for him, but he is an adequate starter there while Price and Ash are rotational pieces at best.

You mean position flex hasn’t worked again? They thought so much of Crawford the DT that they spent a 3 on Collins and brought in Irving. You guys crack me up.

FRISCO, Texas -- When the Dallas Cowboys drafted Tyrone Crawford in the third round in 2012, they envisioned him as a defensive end in their 3-4 scheme.

A year later, they moved to the 4-3 scheme and Crawford missed the season with a torn Achilles. When he returned in 2014, the Cowboys moved him to under tackle in Rod Marinelli’s defense and were convinced they had found him a home, rewarding him with a five-year contract before the 2015 season.

Injuries elsewhere along the line forced Crawford to left defensive end, taking away his strength against interior linemen and putting him against tackles in space. It has led to outside critiques that have been unfair because the Cowboys have not used him in a way to take advantage of what he does best.

So they drafted a third-round DT and snatched a guy off a practice squad because they just had to replace Crawford? Yeah, that's the way you do it. You ever heard of a thing called depth?

Okay when you say it like that I agree completely! The fact we have depth to make players truly earn their spot is great, it's a small but big step to being a contender.

He's pretty much solid at three spots, but not dynamic at any particular one.
He has value as a super sub, IMO.
I don't love the contract, but he's not horribly overpaid. Considering what some guys are getting in free agency, if you view him as a DE his value is somewhere between 6-9 mil a year.
A bit less but no where near egregious like some think. JMO.

that depth took his spot, and with the amount he is getting paid...they were forced to plug him in other positions so as to not look foolish just outright releasing him...which is what needs to happen out of camp.

Whenever he's been allowed to play 3-tech, he's been effective at getting penetration and pressure. Collins' play there as a rookie, though, allowed Dallas to move him to left end because they needed a starter there. Then, having Collins at 3-tech coupled with Irving's play allowed Dallas to move Crawford to RDE in 2017 because the team needed a starter there.

So I'm not sure how dynamic he could have been if allowed to just stay at 3-tech. Being solid at DE and having depth at 3-tech have necessitated moving him.

4 sacks last year to Taco's 3 at RDE. hardly solid
 
This is a good signing. This is quality depth who is still young, as super bowl experience and has upside.
