I think ONE OF the reasons they released Dez when they did

The thinking being that other teams will now think that Dallas HAS TO select a W.R now that Dez is gone. Perfect,.... we gain an extra pick by trading down a little only to end up selecting the player we wanted all along anyway. That being...........Leighton Vander Esch. Right now as it sits MLB is far and away our most glaring need. Timing is everything, THE SILLY SEASON IS UPON US!

So the timing was to confuse other teams in to thinking we're going WR @ 19? Seems to me they're going to a lot of subterfuge to confuse other teams. Bringing in top WR's in the draft. I assume that was on the teams dime. I suppose it's chump change in the grand scheme of things but if I'm a fan and the idea of drafting a WR @ 19 makes me sick, I'm heading out to buy pepto bismol or alka seltzer right quick

I just can't see Jerruh and company being that sneaky with the track record they have. I would also love MLB at #19 but really hope it's not Vander Esch. He's one of the few players I would hate to see them pick.

You are giving this FO and coaches too much credit for trying out smart others....they are not that smart. It is not in the “process”

That was my thinking too. But it's easy to go round and round with these 3d chess scenarios. "Maybe that's just they *want* you to think..." It never ends.

You can spin it the opposite way too. Maybe by releasing Dez, one team that wants a top WR will take him instead, lessening the competition for a top WR.

Out of the 3d chess theories, maybe they only came to a decision after their tryouts of this year's crop of WRs.
