Some reporter in Seattle (their version of Mike Fisher) said that the odds of Earl Thomas to Dallas went from maybe a 5% chance to a 50% chance now that they cut Dez.

He said that the compensation is what is stopping this.. Supposedly they want a 2nd & 4th rounder. Plus you have to extend his deal.

Also, they mention that Dallas has had offers on the table for Dez over the last 100 days but they didn't take those trade offers.

They are criticizing Dallas for not making him a June 1st cut and getting more money back.

What exactly were the specifics of these offers? Just simply telling us that there were offers is pointless. Especially if said offers were detrimental to the Cowboys.

1)There are probably reasons that no one is talking about.
2)Criticizing Dallas is a media moneymaker.

Not sure if that first part is true, but if so then not making the deal is about as dopey as not designating it as a June 1st cut.

I think the picks have been the issue all along
I know many think he is the missing piece and would give up premium picks to get him
Personally I’d love to have him but I wouldn’t gut my draft to get him
I think our top 3 picks would be off limits to me

Of course they are. They want picks and someone to take over that obscene contract he has. Safeties are not a "money 5"
position and Dallas has never paid big money for them. I don't see any scenario where Stephen and Will make a play
for that player unless Seattle would take a 5th round pick and he would sign for 3mil per year or less.

They took it from "The Professor" John Clayton.

He's a Seattle guy who used to work for BSPN.

That's what they said. Just there was offers. Mike Fisher told them there was offers. If you view Fisher as a legit source then you can believe it.

I think Fisher tries to entertain half the time so who knows if Dallas had deals on the table that they turned down.

We had offers to trade Dez and we didn't take them?!? I would have taken a 7th over nothing!!!

And if they give a 2nd and 4th for a 29 year old with only one year left on his deal that's nuts!

Exactly, and do we not benefit from dumping his contract also.
Just more stupidity from the FO if this is indeed the case.

I have to trust that the Dez release was done with plans in place. Right now it looks like they did it wrong. They are more conservative now in there deals so the seahags aren’t getting the picks for Thomas.

at this junction, hes not going to be the piece that puts us over. we are 2 years out as it is. hes not getting younger.

Not sure how you can say this. We were one defensive stop away from the NFC Championship game in 2016. Last year we went 9-7, with Elliott out for 6 games. If Zeke does not get suspended, with the way things fell last year, we’re probably in the Superbowl last year.

Having said that, we just cut a 29-year old player, not sure why we want to sign another one. I’d prefer we stay young. This team has a young core at QB, RB, offensive line, cornerback, etc. They’re going to be competitive for years.

I just can't buy the years out stuff anymore.

Dallas is always years out. How do you compare that to other teams? They probably feel years out too.

You add Earl Thomas to this roster and bolster the front 7 in the draft then you're looking at a potential top 10 defense easy.

If we play above average defense and our run game is explosive again then who knows.

I will say that I think our pass game is going to be blah though.

Pure conjecture and wishful thinking.

The Cowboys value their draft picks these days (except for the occasional "Jerry pick" in the 2nd round).

Why give up two potential starters from the draft in exchange for a near-30 year old who's going to want a $50million extension?
