Is Thomas going to be the "best free safety in football" from this day forward? Doubtful. What he's been in the past is irrelevant to making an investment in him in 2018.
Safeties don't deteriorate as quickly as corners or linebackers. They can play well even when their athleticism begins to decline.

Seattle needs to do something before the draft. I'd offer a 2nd and Cole Beasley. Take it or leave it.
I’d offer the Seabags to take my trash out and put in a new liner. Why do we need to screw ourselves by giving up #50 (that’s supposed to be a starter) on a dude that’s staring down the twilight of his career? I don’t want E.T. that damn bad.

In essence, we give the Seacraps cap relief, and give away a major piece of our draft. Makes total sense. Not!

if we trade back in the first and pick up an extra 3rd rounder, then i'm ok with offering the hawks our 2nd rounder ,as long as earl has already agreed to a contract extension with us. anything else would be stupid on our front offices part, in regards to trading for "the earl ". 1st round = best player available at a position of need ( linebacker, guard/tackle , interior defensive line ). then our 2nd rounder goes to the hawks for earl. we now have 2 third round picks to cover two positions of need ( wr and whatever position we didnt take in the 1st round). possible happenings with a trade back.

1st round = da'ron payne , DL or will hernandez guard

2nd round = traded for earl thomas

3rd round = josey jewell linebacker

3rd round = equanimeous st. brown WR

something along those lines would be sweet .

I am as Longhorn homer as they come on this board. That being said, I don't want Earl on the Cowboys now. He is about 30 yrs old and wants a huge pay day. I would rather invest in some young talent through the draft, and let our new coach whip em into shape.

Because Thomas would be better than any S in this draft and we could likely get 4 or more years out of him. If we they give us permission to negotiate with him to extend him, I'm all for giving them 50. Who are you gonna get who's better at 50?

If I'm taking a 1T in the 1st round it's Vea. (I'd rather get a LB). Doubt Jewell or St. Brown gets to pick 81.

We have enough young dudes on our team. We're not going to win anything with a team of nothing but rookies and inexperienced players. Give me earl for a 2nd

If I thought we were one player away from being elite, I'd jump at the idea of spending what it'd take to sign him. Guess what -- we're not one player away by any stretch of the imagination. I'll take my chances with the draft and hope for the best. That goes for anyone else who might prove too costly for us to sign. Seattle is insistent upon a first and a third round draft pick in trade. That's much too rich for my taste, thanks anyway.

You wouldn't give up Randy Gregory, Gavin Escobar, Chaz Green, Terrance Williams, or Byron Jones for Earl Thomas?

The problem with that is you don't know if you are giving up Jason Witten, DeMarco Murray or someone like that for him. That's an absurd statement .

If you go give up an first and a third for Earl Thomas you might as well go jump off of a bridge.

You could probably have almost any Cowboys player for a first and a third other than maybe Dak or Elliott.

About 95 percent of all 2nd round picks become a shadow of Earl Thomas.

Teams are about to bust badly on Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Randolph, and Jackson.

Draft picks are a crap shoot. Earl Thomas is not.

At Earl Thomas' age, anything can happen and that's not normally a good thing. His performances have diminished in recent years. He more than likely won't be enough to push the Cowboys over the hump into SB contention. It'll take far more than anything he could do to accomplish that. The price that Seattle is asking for his services can't justify his worth at this stage of his career, at least, not for us, anyway. Buyer, beware. Better look to the draft.

He's missed 7 games in 8 years, and his performance is not falling off. Age isn't as critical at safety.

He's needed to train these young pups, too.

I think he could be had for a 3rd and one of our 4ths.

No way is Seattle likely to part with him for a 3rd and a 4th and I'm pretty sure you know better. They've already turned down better.

He's also hit his peak and will be crashing back down to mediocrity or worse at some point. See: Bryant, Dez.

Who said that?

Regardless, they can keep him for that price.
