Rumor: Mortensen: Witten to retire **merged**

Good luck replacing Dez and Witten on an offense that ranked 14th last season. Both were still the best at their position on this team. We don’t have an upgrade for either one of them. If Witten does indeed retire this will be another big blow to the offense.
We'll be fine.

They're discussing it on Talkin Cowboys. I think it may be real. All the best Witt, if there was a modern day Mr. Cowboy, it's him. he embodied Cowboys on and of the field. Great TE and an even better person.

Makes sence now that Olsen turned down the job to stay with Carolina. Witten was their 2nd option and they may have sweetened the deal to land this HOF TE.

Could be that they finally told him that his snaps were going to be greatly reduced and that they wanted to play the young guys more.

Or the TV gig was just the right opportunity at the right time.
Would have told him that when he restructured. I figured he took less money because he had less playing time.

Man I guess Witten really hated the Vander Esch pick. Thanks Witten for your service way to screw us up with your timing. Shame on the front office and staff for not trying to figure this out when months ago it was rumored he got offered a tv deal.

As a 28 year old fan, he could very well be the best Cowboy I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Romo and Ware are in the discussion but didn't have quite the longevity with the franchise. Sean Lee and Zeke may be in the discussion based on sheer skill/peak impact (injuries push Lee down and obviously a lot left to be determined w/ Zeke).

He's a shell of his former self but was a class act and the toughest ******* imaginable all the way. His contributions to the franchise over the better part of 2 decades could never be overstated. Thanks for everything 82!

Color me a bit stunned, as with most of us, I really didn't see this coming. Witten, himself, gave no clue that he was contemplating that at this time and in fact, had stated just the opposite. I can't help but wonder if the FO had anything to do with encouraging him to "hang it up." I'll be looking for more news on the subject to determine exactly what came down. I have no doubt that there'll be more pertinent facts to be revealed very soon.

If Witten does retire then he obviously sees no chance of this team winning a championship. He wouldn’t retire if he thought the Cowboys were on the brink. Has to be tough playing 15 years and never getting past the divisional round of the playoffs.

Some people don't realize the massive crater this just created in our offense. Them are some HUGE shoes to fill.

This is the problem I have with building through the draft. By the time you can get it all built, some of the main pieces are done.

If we get Thomas today to add to LVE, we might finally have a defense, but if Witten retires on top of cutting Dez, we might not have as much of an offense.

Should have retired in February.

I think Witten is the last Bill Parcells player on this team but I could be wrong.

Anyway he is future Hall of Famer.
