Rumor: Mortensen: Witten to retire **merged**

Another way to look at this is the team has officially been turned over to Red. Witten was the last of the chore players prior to Red. Now Red let's see what you can do....it's your players, your coaches, and your team. Bring back the trophy or take a hike.

Hard to believe since 2016 the Cowboys offense has lost Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. No one could have predicted that. Once you get past Zeke this offense has nothing. We lose Zeke to an injury or another suspension and we may never get the ball in the endzone.

One of the greatest TE's to ever play the game. A third round pick who was a draft afterthought to one of the ironman of the league. A consummate character guy, tough as nails who gave it all every game.

You'll be missed, but father time comes for everyone. You have your health, now have your future.

We'll always have this.

Named my kid Witten not only because of Jason Witten himself but because we liked the name. I don't consider football players hero's but Witten is as close as it gets. The guy is an inspiration and will be missed. Can't believe he won't be there anymore. Guy was the favorite target regardless of who was QB. Off the top of my head I think I remember his best game being against the Packers in GB with Vinny Testaverde throwing the ball.

Wow people are complaining about the timing? The future Hof has played through injuries for 15 years while you probably call in sick to work with a tummy ache! He can retire when he damn well pleases and he probably got an offer very recently to join espn.

Anyone who say there list of 30 visits should have known they had no clue about his retirement.

Maybe. But maybe they knew he was contemplating, but had not decided and they didn't want to telegraph it in case he decided not to. Or just maybe they're comfortable with Jarwin and Swaim (I left Rico out because how can anybody really feel comfortable with him at this point).

It looked to me like Witten has had some work done on his hair. It looked much thicker than usual. Getting ready for TV commentating perhaps?

However, Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas Friday morning that Witten’s retirement is “news to me,” although he did acknowledge the future Hall of Fame tight end has a meeting scheduled with Jerry Jones on Friday.

"I'm not aware at this point,” Stephen Jones said. “I think Jerry is preparing to meet with Jason. I certainly don't know anything of finality at this time."
