Rumor: Mortensen: Witten to retire **merged**

Maybe LVE can play a little TE
If not, that #38 is always set to impress

* o.k. ,,,so, we've lost our 'Sgt.Hulka's big toe' of the operation,,, in #82's bizzness decision,,, we can't crumble nor deviate from our preplanned trajectory in the first 4 RDS of this draft,,,those #6 picks have inherently more value today as compared to yesterday though:starspin::star::starspin:

Does this represent a time where Witten looked at himself in the mirror and felt he couldn't do it or help the team anymore. Or does he feel that that this team isn't anywhere close to a SB and given his age, it's time?

Either way, I'll be sad to see him go. This one probably hurts more than any other Cowboys players in the last several, several years. The guy gave everything, sure it was frustrating to see those 9 yard catches when we needed 11 yards but he did make some great plays over the years.

Once again Garrett gets an excuse to hang around an extra year...or ten.

Why is this public now? This couldn't wait a couple more days when the draft is over?

Yep. Completely selfish and self-centered. Actually believes he's special because of all the tongue bathing people do over him.

Have you ever had any personal dealing with Jason? I have and the guy is pure class. Reminds me of Staubach. I was on a flight from DFW to Atlanta shortly after Roger retired. I'm sitting in coach and look up and Roger is coming down the aisle and sits 2 rows behind me. The flight attendant went to him and tried to get him to move to 1st class and he wouldn't; said he didn't pay for it and didn't deserve it any more than anyone else in coach. Witten is in that same mold.

I don't get the hate for Witten. Most posters on here were vilifying him for not retiring and know that it appear he is, they're vilifying him for doing it. Apparently, some people just aren't happy regardless of the circumstances.

Woa Nellie...Jason isn't giving up football now for announcing, but Jerry needs to be up front with him right now and get a verbal commitment for a few weeks on down the road.

Btw a surprise retirement is as unclassy a move Witten has made to an organization who has never done him a disservice.
Don't say that on here champ. If u don't say Witten was the best TE in the league & he was such a leader& a high character guy& cliche-cliche-cliche uggh, they will tell you to leave this site;'-)lol yeah u wouldn't be able to be apart of the "in-crowd" on a Dallas cowboys message board site:;'-))

I certainly don't think Witten believes they are close to a Super Bowl anymore, or he'd stay.
Hate to say it but thought the same thing. There are no real signs that we're close to a championship run at this point. His friend Romo now out and 82 sees the writing on the wall.
This year is a make or break for a lot of key players and perhaps the HC as well. He could be forced into retirement next year unless they have a major breakthrough this season.

Hard to believe since 2016 the Cowboys offense has lost Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. No one could have predicted that. Once you get past Zeke this offense has nothing. We lose Zeke to an injury or another suspension and we may never get the ball in the endzone.

Zeke was nothing running the ball last year.

Probably a combination of all those things, but I have to think that it's mostly that he doesn't think he can perform at the right level anymore.

The NFC is still garbage, the Cowboys have as good a shot as most everyone.
