Rumor: Mortensen: Witten to retire **merged**

Well, Dak was only looking for Dez and forced it too many times. Yes we need Zeke to be the 2016 Zeke. And Dak to be the 2016 Dak. When he moved the ball around to all wr's. Hopefully we can get a TE and or WR today that can get separation and run a route.

Dez was our big play receiver which is why he got targeted so much. He could turn a short pass into a big gain. There isn’t anyway to put a positive spin on losing both Dez and Witten who were one and two in TDs last season with 11 scores. That was half of Dak’s TD pass total. It’s going to be hard for a rookie TE or WR to make an impact in 2018. We’ve set ourselves up for a rough 2018 season unless the defense is great and the offense ends up better than it looks on paper.

We currently have very little at the skill positions. We were stacked offensively a few years ago and right now the offense doesn’t look good. Zeke is the only real weapon we have. Every opponent is going to be bent on stacking the box and stopping him. They’re going to try and force Dak and our receivers to beat them.

Wow. Team leader leaving his team in the dust. Go chase the $
Like any other human being, a professional athlete’s first obligation is to do what’s in the best interest of him and his family. I see no reason to criticize an all time great, who has put his body and future health on the line for 15 years with total character.

Chasing the money? Maybe he’s putting his future health and quality of life first...instead of us fickle fans.

and if he is chasing the money, good on him

Witten came out with 2 retired legends last night. The Cowboys already knew.

It's not even remotely baffling. Changes are happening with every team every year, including high profile ones at times. Witten has been playing 15 years - something like 10-12 years longer than the NFL average - so how would it be baffling he is retiring, especially if he is getting a chance to move straight into the MNF booth?

The baffling part is that MAJOR changes have come to this organization without the benefit of success and there hasn't been a change at head coach. Of course players move out and move on, but what team can you show us that has given 8+ years to the same HC and gone through major organizational restructuring at the team level? This is quite opposite from the NFL standard and thus, quite baffling.

There aren't any teams where the HC is the single constant that has outlasted major rehauls. This team has rehauled QB, skilled positions, offensive line, defensive alignment, AND position coaches. What other coach has been given a leash like that?

LOL Like that means something.

Despite what Stephen says he knew. Trust me. Or this guy, actually.

When you're a homer and can't accept the reality of your team you imagine a more acceptable reality and live in that world.

Not to crap on Witten but this couldn't have waited a day? Now we're 18 picks away with a few TEs with a 2nd round grade and teams will do us no favors if they know what we're gonna do.

Do you actually honestly believe that JOEYB718?,,, sure, maybe a weaselnutt like BUDDY RYAN/ CHIP KELLY carry a "dick nixion" page in their operations manual,,, but that's the kind of logic really akin to a couple of 1950's housewives swapping fence gossip across the fence ,,,er,,,while hanging clothes on the line,,,,ah,,,,and huffing Chesterfield's W/ gin martini's in hand ,,,,SHEESE! probably around 2:30,,,or maybe 2:45 on a Wednesday afternoon,,,,,,o_O

I'm not sure the changes are as dramatic as you make them out to be, but without question Garrett has lasted longer than a coach with his track record would be expected.

ESPN is doing a documentary on Witten right now. How’d they already put this together if he just retired today?
