Back to run 1st league?

I was thinking the same when NY took Barkley @ 2. Its funny because there were alot of people claiming you don't take RB that high when we took Zeke lol. Did we actually start a trend???? The Cowboys and Garrett being innovative? Ill duck now while tomatoes are hurled towards my head.

SPLAAAT!!!!!
I stand by my premise that the Giants getting Barkley would create problems --- twice a year for us for 6 years. We needed, then, desperately, a DT run stuffer. They did and we didn't. That guarantees the Giants winning the East in the near future.

Meh, why arent we guarenteed to win the division with Zeke? You know Gimme you've been a real negative Nancy lately lol.

Ask yourselves this, what's easier to do, gather together a good offensive line, a dynamic RB along with a good run blocking TE and possibly FB? Or get a decent QB with 2-4 fast route runners and play pitch and catch? Let's not forget it's not only the rules that have made it easier to pass, but the salary cap has watered down most of the defenses.

It seems so dooable the way you explain it.
Simple.
Streamlined.

I love having a dominant running game.

Me too. It feels so good watching us impose our will with the run game like we did in 2014 and 2016. There's just a feeling of absolute power and glee that I get when I see our ground game just demolish helpless defenses. Getting Scarborough and Austin is going to make our ground game even more enjoyable to watch knowing that we have the potential of having absolute ease with the ground game. Teams will know we're going to run it, and I think they'll be helpless to stop it.

Also, safety play in general hasn't been very good, and tackling has been pretty abysmal across the league. You get a talented back and some OL that can ball, put some hats on em, and make them tackle the guy.

Good point. Tackling in this league is in the dumps.

Exactly, which makes our ground game all the more important. The struggle that teams have with good tackling techniques is just going to make our ground game that much deadlier. And the best part is that our ground game will allow us to control the ball, meaning that our pretty good defense doesn't have to be on the field for very long.

if Dallas can stick to it and make it work, than others will follow again.

The Cowboys will run inside zone from multiple reciever sets. And I bet they do it well. Spread the defense and run the ball at favorable numbers in the box.

Dak friendly means making the defense declare coverages prior to the snap. The pressure 3, 4, and 5 receivers sets create will accomplish that. Reads are simple and the ball comes out fast.

Power running, and efficient passing is going to make it an entertaining season.

There was a lull n good-to-great RBs for some years when th passing league trend started up. Most of these defenses are built to stop th pass now, resulting n softer defense vs a run heavy teams.

DAL should run down every team on their schedule w/ all these big backs + Tavon. Dak should throw 25 passes/game for best results. That's th recipe.
90's style

QB is still the no 1 position on any NFL team!
No team can win and go the distance to the Big Game with only its running game.
Good to Great Defensive lines can and do Destroy any offline!
If you don't have a decent at least passing attack 8 in the box will shut down any run game!

A great run game goes a long way but it wont take you to the glory land.

P.S. Running the ball 40 times a game is also Boring football for the fans!zzzzz

I have to say that with all the high picks as of late it seems that the league is starting to revert back to running the ball 1st,

We snatched up Zeke with our #4 pick in the 2016 draft.

Next the Jags drafted Leonard Fornette with the 4th overall pick in the 2017 draft.

This year the Giants drafted Saquan Barkley with the #2 overall pick.

Even the Pats are getting into the action drafting Sony Michal 31st overall this year.

I for one miss the days of smash mouth football. I can only hope that we get back to it!
Teams aren't just drafting the best running back available with high picks. All of these guys drafted this high are supposed to be franchise changing talents. Barkley had people who are supposed to know saying he was the highest rated PLAYER in 20 years. Zeke and Fournette didn't get quite that praise, but it was close. There just happened to be a handful of guys who were considered can't miss dominant running backs that could significantly improve an offense over night. If there isn't a transcendent running back in the next draft, I can't imagine a team will reach for one in the first round. I'm just hoping that Barkley will be a prime example of why teams don't want to pick a running back early in the first round.

The league goes in cycles and the rb role is coming back just as the wr role is dropping....

A couple of reasons as ppl have pointed out.. Defenses are built to stop the pass and there have been a run at elite RBs coming out. If there is a generational player in the draft, you take him and ride greatness.

The passing game is starting to get weak, teams have to adjust.

You have to have an elite QB or elite run game to produce on offense. Dallas just so happens to follow the run route. Even if you have both, need a competent defense which we haven't had in awhile.
Or coaching staff

I don't know about the entire league but in my view the Cowboys are built that way. Tyron 1st rd, Fredrick 1st rd, Martin 1st rd, Williams 2nd rd and we all know Collins situation as to falling out of the top of the draft. Then you add Zeke to the mix. I watched back when the Houston Oilers had a similar OL with a lot of 1st rd pick piss it away with the run and shoot when they had an OL that could beat down a defense. Dallas needs to run the ball and use play action off the run, in my view you run your offense on how you built the offense. Ask an OLinman and they will say they love to attack and the run game allows them to do just that.
