The Cowboys have started signing their draft picks.

PFT has learned, via a league source, that the team has signed second-round pick Connor Williams to a four-year deal. That leaves the team with eight other picks to sign, including first-round pick Leighton Vander Esch.

Williams won’t have to move far to join the team as he was born in Texas and played for the University of Texas in college. Williams became a starter at left tackle for the Longhorns as a freshman and shined in 2016 before a knee injury limited him during his final college season.

He won’t be at left tackle in Dallas as long as Tyron Smith is there and the early suggestions out of Dallas have been that Williams will start his pro career at left guard. They could change those plans if they feel a better alignment would put Williams at right tackle while La'el Collins returns to guard.

Big boy says he's ready to shut up and listen. He's going to be a sponge in that O-line room soaking up all that knowledge that 3 superstar linemen have to teach him. That shows he has the mental goods for trench warfare. Next, he needs to put on more muscle which will be assisted with the Cowboy's ace weight room staff and mentorship of 3 superstar linemen. And then there's the work on the field coming to this young fella under the microscope. He will receive the absolute best workouts on the field that a lineman can receive. I don't see how Connor can fail. Already signed and focused.

Where do you think he will be the best fit, how will we utilize him on the OL?

All things considered, I think that Williams lines up at left guard.

This is just my opinion, but I think it makes much better sense to keep a rookie on the same side he played in college. At least initially. The player has enough new material to learn without having to completely reverse his technique on top of it.

Some teams have their entire draft classes signed by now so the Cowboys signings should be coming in soon.
