“I probably would feel better about Dallas’ offseason if they got Watkins, to be honest with you,” an exec said, “just because when you’ve got those young quarterbacks, you’d better try to get them some kind of weapons. Allen Hurns to me is a big slot receiver. He is almost like a tight end. Losing Witten was painful -- just very painful to lose him.”

Dak Prescott has ranked among the NFL leaders in QBR on third-and-2 or longer, a proxy for obvious passing situations. Witten was on the field for every one of these plays over the past two seasons. Overall, Prescott ranked fourth in QBR last season, but you’d never know it from watching the Cowboys’ offense when Ezekiel Elliott and/or Tyron Smith were unavailable.

”Prescott takes a lot of guff, but his receivers aren’t that good,” an evaluator said. “Allen Hurns will not be as good as Dez Bryant. He is just cheaper and a name because he caught 60 balls three years ago. He is beat up. He was a slow college free agent, then he got hurt and he’s not getting faster.”

We lost Prime Witten 2 or 3 years ago. Other than leadership I don't think there will be that big of a drop in production. I've been a little surprised that Dez is unsigned but it makes me think that the market says we lost less than we fear we lost.

I am always excited about seeing new players and this year there is a bunch of them. I'm ready for some football.

I'm sure the exec would have felt better if we signed an overrated high priced WR like Watkins. Instead of having a has been in elite talent in Dez, we would have a never has been elite talent in Watkins. Which would make things easier on everybody except us.

I guess the Cowboys should just forget about this coming season and start getting ready for the next offseason...

Harsh reality is that Dez sucked last year and began declining in 2015. It won't be hard to replace him. For every good thing Dez actually did last year, he wiped it away with another drive-blowing drop.

Then TE, relying on Witten made the offense predictable and he wasn't in his prime anymore. Too good to take off field but not changing games anymore. Plus, it's TE, pretty far down the necessity list.

We'll be just fine.

WELL, what the **** do they know!

And when you pay a guy like Sammy Watkins the money he got, you're going to be hard-pressed to pay your DE and all-world guard what they want..... and when THAT happens and they walk, then you REALLY WILL have a poor offseason.

Copy that,Mr. 'kraut meat Weiner',

* tight ends in the NFL should never be discounted nor besmirched, as they pretty much kicked that 'settingsun' into the nighttime savings program in replacing the critical need of the "hi-$" #1 wideouts ever since TONY GONZALEZ broke bad out on that turf,,,:starspin::thumbup:
