take a look at this video of austin's highlights.
yes these are highlights, but the potential impact is obvious.
ignore the special team touchdowns and focus on wr/bubble screens, jet sweeps and other sweeps.

these plays and fakes off these plays - bubble screens, jet sweeps and other sweeps - were causing defenses a lot of issues.
as of early november, analysts were talking about how the rams figured out how to maximize gurley and austin
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...tavon-austin-being-maximized-by-st-louis-rams

there were stats that showed austin had a big impact on gurley's performance.
after a few games, Todd Gurley getting 8.1 yards/carry when Tavon Austin is jet-sweeping, compared with 3.3 when he's not.

why would the rams release him if he was important to scheme?
i am still trying to figure it out.
it seems gurley is sorry to see austin go, though many rams fans were not...

Tavon Austin:

The poor man’s Lance Dunbar + Lucky Whitehead’s jet-sweep gimmick + Ryan Switzer’s one-hop punt returns + DeMarco Murray’s fumbles.

Four HOF talents in one...now THAT’S position-flex!

unlike dunbar, he stays healthy.
unlike whitehead, he is not a head case
unlike switzer, he runs a 4.3
his fumbles come on punt returns.

Speed is always a positive addition to your arsenal, hoping to see more bubble screens...

It's funny how alot of fans call austin a bust but lack a single clue on his whole purpose! Nice vid

Take out the "poor man" because those guys combined cant match tavons talents.

Please NO, no gadget plays. I'd like you to show me how many problems Lucky and Switzer caused defenses on jet screens. Please!!!

I think we all know about the Dunbar role, we make fun but he was effective for us minus fumbles. I think we are going to use Austin more than Dunbar and to greater affect. I think he could have a Jahvid Best or Giovanni Bernard type of impact with the ball. His greatest use for us however, will be reading the D with him in motion and probably taking a defender out of the Box alleviating some of the wear and tear that happens running into a stacked front over and over.
